Fans of the British royal family celebrated on July 22, 2013, when Prince William and Princess Kate welcomed their first child, Prince George, into the world. Now, George is 12 years old, and as he and his sister Princess Charlotte as well as his brother Prince Louis, made their first official appearance of the year, plenty of people were left shocked by how much the eldest sibling has grown.
Prince George Is SO TALL!
When photos of the royal family’s Easter outing started to circulate on social media, it was hard not to notice Prince George’s height.
“George, 12, looked so tall as he walked alongside his family, donning a dark navy suit and blue tie that matched his younger brother Louis, seven, and father William,” Hello! pointed out. “The ever-growing royal appeared to be catching up to his parents in height, smiling as he walked beside them.”
In fact, “[r]oyal fans were left astonished on Sunday as Prince George of Wales made his first public appearance of 2026, with many noting just how much he has grown — appearing nearly as tall as his mother, Catherine, Princess of Wales, even while she wore heels,” according to royal reporter Lydia Alty.
“On arrival, crowds gathered outside the historic [St George’s Chapel] immediately noticed the striking change in Prince George’s height,” Alty continued. “Standing confidently beside his parents, he appeared poised and composed, with many commenting on how quickly he is maturing.”
Alty also noted that “[a]t the same time, Prince Louis — often known for his playful public moments — also appeared noticeably taller and older, adding to the sense of how much the royal children have grown in recent months.”
How Tall are Other Members of the Royal Family?
While it’s surprising to see how much Prince George has grown recently, it shouldn’t be a shock to find out that he’ll likely be quite tall. That’s because both of his parents boast an above-average height.
For context, the average man in England is 5 feet and 9 inches tall, according to the BBC, while the average English woman is 5 feet and 3 inches tall.
Prince William happens to be 6 feet and 3 inches, per PureWow, and Princess Kate is 5 feet and 9 inches.
William’s mother, the late Princess Diana, was also quite tall, standing at 5 feet and 10 inches, which is the same height as his father, King Charles. As for Prince Harry, he’s just a bit shorter than his older brother at 6 feet and 2 inches.
Of course, not all British royals are tall. In fact, according to History.com, Queen Victoria was only 4 feet and 11 inches tall.
