Since first appearing on TLC in 2008, the Duggar family has grown far beyond Jim Bob and Michelle’s 19 children. As more Duggar kids have married and started families of their own, fans have become increasingly curious about the relatives who joined the ever-expanding family tree.
One branch that gained attention in recent years is the Spivey family, thanks to Justin Duggar’s marriage to Claire Spivey. Justin is Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s fourteenth child and ninth son.
While Claire became known to viewers through her connection to the Duggars, her family has its own background, traditions, and close-knit dynamic. With that in mind, here are five fast facts to know about the Spivey family in another edition of Duggar in-laws explained.
1. Justin Duggar Married Into the Spivey Family in 2021
Justin Duggar tied the knot with Claire Spivey on February 26, 2021. Justin Duggar was just 18 years old when he married Claire Spivey, making him the youngest Duggar child to tie the knot. His age drew attention from fans, especially because the couple announced their engagement only a few months after confirming their courtship.
Despite being the youngest Duggar child to marry, Justin and Claire have taken a different path from many of his siblings. After celebrating more than five years of marriage, the couple has not yet welcomed children, which sets them apart from many Duggar family members who started families soon after marrying.
2. Justin Duggar’s Father-In-Law Is Rob Spivey
The patriarch of the Spivey family is Rob Spivey. Justin Duggar’s father-in-law was born on September 30, 1973. In 2006, Rob started his own construction business in Fort Worth, Texas. Spivey Construction is known for building custom homes and tackling home remodeling projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
3. Justin Duggar Works For His Father-In-Law
When Justin Duggar married Claire Spivey, he relocated from Arkansas to Texas. During this time, Justin also began working for his father-in-law at Spivey Construction.
Justin is among just a few of the Duggar kids, and the only son, who chose to move away from Arkansas right after getting married. Some of his older sisters, including Jinger Duggar Vuolo, Jill Duggar Dillard, and Jana Duggar Wissmann, have also moved to other states.
4. Justin Duggar’s Mother-In-Law Is Hilary Spivey
The matriarch of the Spivey family is Hilary Spivey. Justin Duggar’s mother-in-law was born on March 19, 1978. Like many of the Duggar in-laws, Hilary has devoted much of her adult life to being a wife and mother, while also taking on homeschooling responsibilities.
When Justin and Claire tied the knot, Hilary served as Claire’s matron of honor. Hilary’s sister, Gari-Anne Smith, was also in the wedding party, serving as a bridesmaid.
5. Rob and Hilary Spivey Share 6 Children
Justin Duggar’s in-laws tied the knot on September 18, 1999, in Tarrant County, Texas. They welcomed their first child, Claire Yvonne, on February 27, 2001.
The Spiveys’s second child and first son, Robert Tarver III, joined the family in November 2003.
Their third child and second daughter, Paige Spivey, was born in June 2006.
The boys began to outnumber the girls in the Spivey household with the additions of Wyatt in September 2010 and Taylor in November 2012.
However, the couple’s youngest daughter, Carson, balanced the family count with her arrival in June 2016.
In total, the Spiveys have six children, with three boys and three girls, including Claire, Robby, Paige, Wyatt, Taylor, and Carson.
While the Spivey family may not be as widely known as some of the other Duggar in-laws, they quickly became familiar faces to fans during Justin and Claire’s relationship. From their large family dynamic to their strong Texas roots, the Spiveys have carved out their own place within the extended Duggar family tree.
