Season 7 star Mia Quebedeaux from TLC’s hit reality show “Unexpected” and her family are counting their blessings after narrowly escaping a devastating house fire in Denham Springs, Louisiana, earlier this week — and, miraculously, Mia and her infant daughter Oakleigh are safe.
Mia Speaks Out
The fire broke out on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, at the house Mia shared with her boyfriend, Jesse, her father, Keith, and their 8-month-old daughter Oakleigh.
Mia gave an interview with Unfiltered With Kiran on Monday, January 26.
According to Mia, the family didn’t realize anything was amiss until a passerby noticed smoke and knocked on their door to warn them — a heroic act Mia credits with saving their lives.
“She’s said, ‘Your stairs are on fire.’ I said, ‘What?’ So I start going down there and I see the bottom of the stairs are on fire. My dad opens our laundry room door that leads to a second pair of stairs on the side of our house, and flames were already all the way up there. So black smoke just came all in our house,” she recalled of the scary moment.
Once alerted, Mia said everyone ran out of the house with only moments to spare. “My dog got out, me and the baby, everybody got out the house safely,” she shared, underlining how fortunate they were to escape without injury.
While the family is safe, the blaze left the home a total loss, and all of their possessions — including phones, keys and wallets — were destroyed in the flames.
A GoFundMe set up to help the family, Mia and Jesse had been saving to move into a place of their own, but instead now find themselves without a home.
The fundraiser notes that Mia’s father, Keith, is the sole provider for the household and lost his truck in the fire as well.
Right now, the family is staying in a hotel temporarily as they figure out their next steps, with friends and supporters rallying to donate clothing, baby items and other essentials.
The local community response has been strong, with people offering everything from diapers and formula to clothes and other necessities for Mia and her young daughter.
The Couple Will Be on the Upcoming Season
Mia, just 16 years old, has been featured in promotional material for the upcoming season of “Unexpected,” where her relationship with her boyfriend and her path to motherhood have been part of the narrative.
The fire comes at a difficult time, but the fact that her baby is safe and that no family members were hurt has been the central focus of support from fans and cast members alike.
As Mia and her family begin the process of recovering and rebuilding, the outpouring of kindness — both online and in their local area — is helping them navigate this unexpected chapter with resilience and hope.
