Following his ultra-private wedding to pop star Dua Lipa earlier this summer, Callum Turner is now opening up about what an “amazing” experience it was for him.
In a new interview with Esquire, the “One Night Only” star finally broke his silence about the nuptials.
‘The Most Beautiful Day of My Life’
Admitting he didn’t want to say much about the wedding, the newlywed actor did share his feelings about that big day.
“It was amazing,” he told the magazine.
Reflecting on the occasion, he spoke of his wedding day in awestruck terms, declaring that “it was the most beautiful day of my life.”
The Attention Has Been ‘Surreal’
Despite the efforts undertaken to maintain privacy surrounding the event, he admits he’s a bit overwhelmed by the public scrutiny his wedding has been receiving.
“We went to the park yesterday, and everyone who walked past said, ‘Congratulations,'” Turner recalled. “It was pretty surreal.”
He also admitted he wasn’t prepared for the level of attention that their wedding would generate.
“It’s a weird thing in general when you have such a personal thing happen and then it’s also spoken about publicly and by a lot of people,” he said.
He compares the phenomenon to what he experienced after the 2016 death of his friend, actor Anton Yelchin. “I remember when he died, it was an unbelievably horrific moment for me that was being shared by so many other people, and I found that so discombobulating because I didn’t understand the grief anyway, and then it was being talked about by so many people,” Turner explained. “And I think it’s something that I’ve gotten used to over the years because of experiences, but I don’t think that’s ever going to be… I think you just gotta ignore it, is what you got to do.”
Babies on the Horizon?
While juggling his white-hot acting career and his new marriage, he told Esquire that “family” was his priority, and envisions starting a family with Dua Lipa in the near future.
“Obviously, yeah, I’m 36,” he said.
“I’d like to have a family and raise some kids,” he added.
No Comment on Those Bond Rumors
Meanwhile, Turner remains one of the rumored frontrunners to slide into the tuxedo of 007 in the next James Bond movie.
However, the actor was insistent that he knows nothing, and will therefore say nothing.
“I don’t know anything, so I can’t comment. There’s nothing for me to comment on,” he told the magazine when pressed about rumors he’ll be the next Bond.
When pressed further, Turner’s no-comment comment became something of a mantra.
“There’s nothing for me to comment on, and I think it’s best just to not say anything,” he added.
Pressed even further, he continued to dance around the subject.
“I just know I’m not going to comment on it,” he said, “just because there’s no point in commenting on it in this moment.”
When asked if he’d like to play Bond, he continued that now-familiar refrain. “I’m not going to comment,” he said once again. “It’s just so loaded, it’s just such a loaded thing.”
