Today, the role remains beloved to the actress, and she admits that she carries a piece of the character within her to this day.

In an episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” the host and Ross Mathews discussed the iconic role of Josie Grossie in the feature film “Never Been Kissed.” Movie fans are revisiting the character and now her in a different light than years prior.
Mathews revealed, “Drew is in the news. Scary Mommy reports that Josie Grossie from ‘Never Been Kissed’ wouldn’t be an outcast today. Now, she’d actually be the cool girl.”
Mathews added, “However, owning your quirks and skipping mean girl energy is officially in. Therefore, proving that authenticity is the ultimate glow up.”
“So in 1999, Josie Gellar was a dork, but in 2026 she would be an icon. Well, she is an icon, hello, one of the greatest characters of all time,” Mathews concluded.
However, Barrymore explained in an Instagram clip that the way the character is now interpreted “feels like a little bit of progress in the world. I love her so much.”
She concluded, “Life is raw, and real. Let’s celebrate it.”
“I am still Josie Grossie. I always have been and always will be.”
