Hollywood is continuing to rally around James Van Der Beek and his family following his passing at age 48 after a battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer. After his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an Instagram statement, celebrities quickly filled the comments with messages of love and support.

“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,” Kimberly wrote, sharing that he met his final days “with courage, faith, and grace,” while asking for privacy as their family grieves.

Jennifer Garner was among the first to respond, writing, “What a heartbreaking loss. So much love to you, Kimberly, and to your kids, as you navigate this tender time.” Jenna Dewan also honored the late actor, commenting, “I will always and forever remember your sweet gentle soul. My love and prayers with Kim and the entire family.”

Patricia Arquette encouraged fans to support the family, writing, “Love you. James was one of a kind. The best. People can support on GoFundMe look up Support for James Van Der Beek’s family to support through this time.” Kellan Lutz added, “So sorry for you, your family, the world’s loss,” while Christie Brinkley reflected on his character, sharing, “His kindness radiated, his love for his family was palpable it sparkled, everybody loved him. Remembered for His Heart On and Off Screen

Van Der Beek was best known for his role as Dawson Leery on “Dawson’s Creek,” which made him a household name in the late 1990s. He later starred in “Varsity Blues” and appeared in projects including “How I Met Your Mother,” “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23,” and “CSI: Cyber.” In 2019, he competed on “Dancing With the Stars,” earning praise for both his performances and his vulnerability as he opened up about personal family struggles during the season.

More recently, he appeared in “The Real Full Monty” in 2024 and the Prime Video series “Overcompensating” in 2025, continuing to work while quietly navigating his health journey.


A Private Battle Shared With Honesty

Van Der Beek was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in August 2023 after a routine colonoscopy. He publicly revealed his diagnosis in November 2024, explaining that what he initially thought were minor digestive changes led him to get checked. He later described cancer as a “full-time job,” sharing how difficult it was to tell loved ones while also trying to remain strong for his wife and their six children.

Despite the challenges, he often expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from friends and fans. He leaned heavily on Kimberly and their children, calling them his greatest blessing and motivation.

As tributes continue to pour in, the sentiment across Hollywood remains the same. As Christie Brinkley wrote, “His kindness radiated.”

  2. Teddy saw dr. Merz for a bad skin condition. She was very good with him! She was helpful in helping me find someone to help out at home. We are glad she is our vet. Everyone there is very kind and helpful.
