Shannon Elizabeth Fondly Recalls ‘American Pie’ Days, Including ‘Difficult’ Audition

Shannon Elizabeth became a breakout star after her role as exchange student Nadia in “American Pie.”

However, although she remembers her time on set fondly, the former actress has revealed she found the audition “difficult” to get through.

Elizabeth Was “Really Scared” For Audition

In an interview with Fox News, Elizabeth remembered her time on “American Pie.”

“I’d never done anything that big,” she said of her part in the film. “But I was auditioning a lot at the time, and I was so excited when I got the role.”

However, she admitted she found the audition process “difficult.”

“I was scared. I was really scared,” she shared. “In the audition, it was the opposite of what you saw in the movie. I had to dance for Jason [Biggs] instead of him dancing for me.”

In the film, Biggs’ character Jim famously dances to the Barenaked Ladies song “One Week” while on a video call with Elizabeth’s character Nadia.

Although Nadia was something of a pinup role, Elizabeth admitted she’s “not somebody [who’s] super comfortable in my own skin, to be honest.”

“But, you just overcome that,” she continued. “I tend to be quite a shy person, but when I need to turn it on, I need to let the shy go. I flip a switch and do that. And then when it’s over, the switch goes off again, and I go back into shy mode.”

She also revealed the amusing origins of her character’s accent.

“I was in an acting class at the time when, a few weeks before the audition, I tried to do a French accent for another character I was trying to play,” she shared.

“I was working with someone who was in the class, and he said, ‘Remember when you tried to do the French accent in class? Do that. It sounds Russian.'”

Is Another ‘American Pie’ In The Works?

Despite appearing in blockbusters like “Scary Movie,” “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” and “Tomcats,” Elizabeth stepped away from the spotlight to focus on her charity.

The Shannon Elizabeth Foundation aims to protect endangered species and habitats in a critical state.

However, she wouldn’t turn down another “American Pie” role.

“I would love to see a film where it’s all about Nadia back in her home country and what she does there, and following her around, seeing her day-to-day life now,” she enthused. “I think that would be so much fun.”

And if it’s anything to do with co-star Biggs, it could be possible.

The actor stated to the New York Post that “there’s always talks, there’s always rumblings.”

“I can tell you that I’d love to get back with everybody and do another one if it’s the right story,” he said. “I think it would be so much fun. I love playing that character.”

“I love working with those guys and gals,” he continued. “Everybody is just — it’s family, you know? So I’d love to do it. And honestly, I feel like enough people ask and there’s enough fans. Nostalgia is big right now.”
