Tim Curry was no stranger to tackling complex characters. In the horror space, his work spanned his 1975 feature film debut, the horror/musical “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and the little-known follow-up “The Shout” (1978) to “Scream 2” (2001). He also conjured up madness with roles in thrillers like “The Hunt for Red October” and such indies as “Wolf Girl” and “Ritual.”
More recently, Curry played the devilish, enigmatic Lockwood in Michael Leavy’s meta-slasher “Stream” in 2024. The film, which also stars several other horror titans including Tony Todd (“Candyman”), serves as Curry’s final film released before his death at 80. EntertainmentNow can exclusively report that the late actor’s work in horror is not yet finished.
Director Statement on Curry’s Involvement in Sequel
Leavy confirmed that Tim Curry completed filming for his role in the writer/director’s forthcoming sequel, “Stream 2: Sudden Death.”
“I can’t go into too much detail regarding the film at this time. I can confirm that Tim completed all of his work for his role as Lockwood in ‘Stream 2,'” Leavy told EntertainmentNow. “We feel incredibly fortunate to have had him as part of the ‘Stream family,’ and we will always cherish the experience of working with him on this franchise. It’s deeply meaningful to know that audiences will still have the opportunity to celebrate the work Tim brought to this role, and we’re honored to help preserve that performance in ‘Stream 2: Sudden Death.'”
As of this writing, “Stream 2: Sudden Death” does not currently have a release date. Screenwriters Joe Imburgio and Brian Quinn penned the script, and returning cast members also include David Howard Horton (Art the Clown in the “Terrifier” franchise), Damian Maffei (“The Strangers: Prey at Night,” “Haunt”) and Craig Loydgren (“Abnormal Attraction”).
‘Stream’ Flips Slasher Conventions
Michael Leavy’s “Stream,” now streaming for free, follows a fractured family taking a vacation to an amusement park. But they never make it there. Instead, four masked killers descend upon their hotel and engage the guests in a macabre game of cat-and-mouse that tests their survival instincts. The cast also includes Danielle Harris (the “Halloween” franchise), Dee Wallace (“Cujo,” “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”), Mark Holton (“Leprechaun”), Tim Reid (“It” miniseries), Jeffrey Combs (“Re-Animator”) and the incomparable Felissa Rose (“Sleepaway Camp”).
In rounding up his star-studded cast, he did not set out to make what fans have called “The Avengers of Horror,” but as Leavy pointed out, he “never set out to do that,” he told Variety. “We set out to get the best actors for the roles we could find. There were a few that we targeted — obviously, being horror fans.”
Admittedly, Tim Curry was quite the catch. As someone who idolized the actor growing up, Leavy couldn’t believe it when he spoke to Variety in August 2024. “It is one of the major highlights of my life getting to work with him,” he said, “especially on a project that means so much to me.”
Leavy also works as a producer and has assisted on the “Terrifier” franchise, the Mickey Mouse horror “Screamboat” and numerous other projects.
