Sofía Vergara Celebrates ‘Favorite Husband’ Ed O’Neill With Sweet Birthday Tribute

Sofía Vergara is proving that some TV relationships never fade.

The “Modern Family” star took to Instagram on Sunday, April 12, to celebrate a major milestone for her longtime co-star Ed O’Neill, who turned 80 over the weekend.

And while their on-screen marriage ended when the show wrapped, their off-screen bond is clearly still going strong.

The Sweet Birthday Post

Vergara shared a throwback photo of the pair, smiling with their arms wrapped around each other, capturing the chemistry fans loved for over a decade.

Alongside the image, she included a heartfelt—and playful—message that instantly got attention.

“Feliz cumpleaños to my favorite husband!❤️ I miss u Ed O’Neil!!!!🥳🥳🥳🥳,” she wrote.

The post quickly filled with love from fans and fellow celebrities alike, many of whom still see the duo as one of television’s most iconic couples.

After all, they spent 11 seasons portraying Gloria Delgado-Pritchett and Jay Pritchett on “Modern Family” from 2009 to 2020.

Model Natasha Ryder chimed in with, “my favorite parents😭♥️,” while another fan called them “the best couple in the world.”

Even Facebook’s official account joined the conversation, writing, “the duo that raised us.”

The overwhelming response highlights just how lasting their impact has been.

For many viewers, Vergara and O’Neill weren’t just characters—they felt like family.

The Two Have a Close Friendship

Vergara has often spoken about her close friendship with O’Neill and how much their time on “Modern Family” meant to her.

She’s even joked about wanting to reunite for a revival someday.

In a 2024 interview with Variety, she shared a humorous but telling comment about their future.

“I always joke with him, ‘Ed, don’t die. Because if we do the sequel, it will take some time, and you’re the oldest of us. You can’t be dead!’” she said.

It’s that same mix of humor and affection that defined their on-screen dynamic—and clearly carries over into real life.

The cast has remained close even after the show ended.

In December 2023, Vergara reunited much of the ensemble for the first time since the series finale.

The gathering included O’Neill as well as several other fan-favorite cast members and creators.

“It was very special,” Vergara said at the time while speaking with PEOPLE, noting it had been nearly four years since they were all together.

Despite the time apart, she said the connection never faded.

“It’s amazing, because we’re always connected,” she explained. “Even though we haven’t seen each other in so long, it felt like we just left the set in 2020.”
