Nolan Gould, best known for playing Luke Dunphy on the hit sitcom “Modern Family,” surprised fans with a noticeably mature new look.
He had a full beard and longer hair when he recently reunited with former costars in Los Angeles recently.
In a photo shared by “Modern Family” alum Jesse Tyler Ferguson on Instagram, Gould stood alongside Ferguson and Ariel Winter — who played his on-screen uncle and sister, respectively — during a casual lunch celebrating the start of 2026.
“New year, new lunch with the fam,” Ferguson captioned the snapshot posted Monday, Jan. 5, sparking warm reactions from fans who saw the cast members together again.
Fans React to Gould’s Look
The image quickly drew attention because Gould’s beard and changed hairstyle gave him a much more grown-up appearance than fans remembered from the series, which ended in 2020.
Social media followers were quick to share their reactions, with many commenting on Gould’s striking transformation.
Some called him “ruggedly handsome,” while others expressed excitement at seeing the cast reconnect.
A chorus of fans even suggested that “Modern Family” could benefit from a reboot or spin-off, given how naturally the actors seemed to pick up where they left off.
Others filled the comments with quotes from the popular show.
The 27-year-old actor’s transformation had social media buzzing, and longtime viewers were delighted to see members of the beloved ensemble together again as the cast kicked off the new year.
‘Modern Family’ Ran For 11 Seasons
Gould first captured hearts as the quirky, mischievous youngest Dunphy sibling when “Modern Family” debuted in 2009.
The show ran for 11 seasons and became one of ABC’s most cherished comedies, earning multiple awards and launching its ensemble into mainstream fame.
Though it may be unusual for “Modern Family” fans to see Gould with facial hair — the character of Luke was almost always clean-shaven during the show’s run — the change reflects simply the passage of time.
Gould was just 10 years old when he first appeared on the sitcom.
Over the years, his castmates became like family, both on and off screen, maintaining close friendships long after the show finished filming.
Winter, who portrayed Gould’s TV sister Alex Dunphy, remains one of his closest real-life friends, and their bond has been well documented since their days on set.
Despite playing siblings, they are the same age, a fun twist on the show’s family dynamic that delighted viewers then and now.
