Jamal Roberts Can’t Believe He Owns the ‘Beautiful Home’ He Long Admired Before Winning ‘American Idol’

For Jamal Roberts, moving into his new home was definitely a pinch-me moment. When the 2025 “American Idol” winner was backstage at the first live show of season 24 on March 30, 2026, he sat down with 90s star Danielle Fishel for her post-show podcast and shared how his life has changed since his big win.

Roberts told Fishel that among his long list of achievements since last May, from touring with Brandy and Monica to earning a Grammy nomination, is buying a “beautiful” Mississippi house he’d always admired, but never imagined he’d be able to own one day.

Jamal Roberts Says His New Home is on 3 Acres of Land

Roberts revealed his home purchase in February, posting photos of himself on the steps of his new abode — a development he called “mind-blowing.”

“I just bought a house on three acres of land, four bedroom, two bath,” he told Fishel on her podcast.

When she asked if he found it online or via Zillow, he replied, “I’d seen it online, and I used to drive by it all the time. I never thought nothing of it. Beautiful home. I just never thought I’d be in it.”

“But look at you,” Fishel exclaimed, and Roberts beamed, “Look at me.”

Jamal Roberts Plans to Let Fans Stay at His Former Home

Before winning “American Idol,” Roberts was an elementary school physical ed teacher in his hometown of Meridian, Mississippi. Shortly after his win, he had to hire security in order to go grocery shopping or hang out with his three daughters — seven-year-old Gianna, five-year-old Lyrik, and almost one-year-old Gianna.

The R&B and gospel singer is surely happy to have more space to hang out in privacy at his new property, but he’s not ready to let go of his former home just yet.

When Fishel asked him on the “American Idol” podcast if he had a proper place to display his memorabilia and future Grammys, he told her, “My last home that I moved out of, I’m turning into Airbnb. And I think I’m just gonna leave all of my precious memories in there so people can come and (see) when they rent it out.”

Fishel said it was a “great idea” to turn his old home into a tourist attraction, and revealed that she once rented out the “Boy Meets World” house that’s now on Airbnb in Los Angeles.

What Does Jamal Roberts Hope to Achieve Next?

Roberts, who released his latest single “Head Up” in early 2026, told Fishel that nearly a year after winning “American Idol,” he’s finally “come to the conclusion that it’s not a dream,” but noted he has other dreams that he now wants to achieve.

“I want to go higher, want to get better, want to still be in that spotlight of the ‘American Idol’ winner,” he said. “So I’m holding myself up … to a higher standard. I’m still chasing dreams.” Among those dreams, he said, is to shift from “Grammy nominated to Grammy winner.”

Roberts will perform on the May 4 live episode of “American Idol,” which currently airs each Monday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
