In addition to the duet performances on “American Idol” season 24 tonight on ABC, we had a crossover with “Dancing With the Stars.” Some of the “DWTS” pro dancers were in attendance tonight as the Top 5 on “American Idol” 2026 performed. Braden Rumfelt was one of those Top 5 singers, and he performed for the first time on “American Idol” 2026 tonight. DWTS Crossover Performance
He is singing “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims. He was distraught when he first heard about the “DWTS” crossover, as he thought he had to dance. Randy told him he has to get out of his head and start feeling these lyrics. To be honest, I am torn on this one. There are parts where he sounds really good. Then there are parts where the song seems bigger than him, but seeing Jan Ravnik and Witney Carson do a contemporary was nice.
For the judges, Carrie said Randy gave you good advice. It’s singing with your whole body. Luke said swag it up, put some stank face on it. Lionel said you’re thinking too much. You can’t mess up because the audience hasn’t seen rehearsals. Paula said she loves his voice, and it makes her feel like she’s wrapped in the coziest blanket. Own the stage.
Last Week’s Taylor Swift Performance
For his Taylor Swift performance, he sang “cardigan” while wearing a cardigan sweater. This was the last Taylor song of the night, and I think we may have ended it with one of the best performances of the night. Braden had been a little off for me the last few weeks, but this was a great song choice and a great performance. I loved it.
For the judges, Nikki said he was in the pocket. He ate that song; it was so good. He took me on a journey. It was really beautiful. Luke said that’s like my favorite thing he’s done so far. You took me on the emotional journey of that song, and I loved it. Lionel said he kept thinking this guy is in the pocket. You put your foot right in, and he stayed in it. The story you were telling, I believed it. Carrie said he seemed to be comfortable in it. It’s one of her favorite things he’s done.
Last Week’s California Song Performance on ‘American Idol’
For his second performance last week, he sang “This Love” by Maroon 5. This one started a little rough for me, and I was worried. Like, he did so well on that first performance, but then he failed on this one. However, as the song went on, he kicked it in and was having fun up there. He doesn’t have that rocker voice, but he’s showing off some range on this one.
For the judges, Nikki said he owned that. He made it look so cool, and he looked cool. She loved the whole thing. Luke said great job. Lionel said pink, the boots, the look, you took it out of the mic stand, you gave us the ugly face. That’s what we want. Carrie said it was such a great moment for him. You looked like a rock star. She’s never seen him more comfortable up there.
