The remaining singers were taking on Taylor Swift Night on “American Idol” season 24 tonight on ABC. For the first time this season, the Top 7 on “American Idol” 2026 were singing two different songs. Braden Rumfelt not only took on a Taylor Swift song, but then he took on a song from an iconic artist from California on “American Idol” 2026 tonight. Taylor Swift Song Performance
It seems fitting that Braden is singing “cardigan” while wearing a cardigan sweater, right? This is the last Taylor song of the night, and I think we may have ended it with one of the best performances of the night. Braden has been a little off for me the last few weeks, but this was a great song choice and a great performance. I loved it.
For the judges, Nikki said he was in the pocket. He ate that song; it was so good. He took me on a journey. It was really beautiful. Luke said that’s like my favorite thing he’s done so far. You took me on the emotional journey of that song, and I loved it. Lionel said he kept thinking this guy is in the pocket. You put your foot right in, and he stayed in it. The story you were telling, I believed it. Carrie said he seemed to be comfortable in it. It’s one of her favorite things he’s done.
California Song Performance on ‘American Idol’
He said this song is his chance to have fun. It’s his ability to convey the fun he’s been having in California with his friends, and people see that he really is having fun. For this performance, he is singing “This Love” by Maroon 5. This one started a little rough for me, and I was worried. Like, he did so well on that first performance, but then he failed on this one. However, as the song went on, he kicked it in and was having fun up there. He doesn’t have that rocker voice, but he’s showing off some range on this one.
For the judges, Nikki said he owned that. He made it look so cool, and he looked cool. She loved the whole thing. Luke said great job. Lionel said pink, the boots, the look, you took it out of the mic stand, you gave us the ugly face. That’s what we want. Carrie said it was such a great moment for him. You looked like a rock star. She’s never seen him more comfortable up there.
This is an odd night, as the pressure is on these Top 7. They are all bringing it, as Braden nailed his performances tonight. The judges loved him, but will America vote? That is the big question, but the results will be coming soon. Can he make it into the Top 5? I thought he would when the season began!
