While Beyoncé is now an international superstar, she proudly hails from Texas. Now, the Houston home where she grew up has hit the market for just a tad under $1.3 million. While that might make fans interested in picking up and moving into the singer’s former abode, it looks like the property may have already found a buyer.
In case you weren’t aware, “Beyoncé was born in Houston on Sept. 4, 1981,” according to the Houston Chronicle. “She spent much of her childhood in the city’s historic Third Ward — a neighborhood she still shouts out in her music — before later moving to Missouri City during her teenage years.”
“Her formative years were steeped in Houston’s culture: She helped out at her mother, Tina Knowles’, Headliners Salon, sweeping floors and honing her performance instincts by singing and dancing for clients,” the Houston Chronicle notes. “Beyoncé also sang Sunday gospels with her church choirs at St. John’s United Methodist and St. Mary’s Catholic Montessori, while zydeco and the city’s signature chopped-and-screwed hip‑hop sound also shaped her musical ear.”
Now, KHOU reports that the “Third Ward Houston home where Beyoncé grew up has gone under contract just weeks after hitting the market.”
It’s ‘the Perfect Home to Fall CRAZY IN LOVE With’
Spanning 4,010 square feet, Beyoncé’s childhood home offers residents four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms.
“Nestled in historic Riverside Terrace, this beautifully restored residence offers a rare blend of traditional elegance, architectural character, and a story that extends beyond its walls,” according to the Sotheby’s International Realty listing. “Originally built in 1935, the home … is thoughtfully updated to balance timeless design with modern comfort.”
The listing adds, “Referenced in acclaimed works and known for its unique legacy, this property presents an extraordinary opportunity for the buyer who values history, distinction, and significance.”
“The main residence features generous living areas, refined finishes, and seamless indoor-outdoor flow, complemented by a private pool, detached guest house, and a three-car garage,” per the listing, which also notes that, “[l]ocated just minutes from the Texas Medical Center, Museum District, and Downtown Houston, this is a one-of-a-kind offering is the perfect home to fall CRAZY IN LOVE with.
Beyoncé’s Childhood Home Gets Plenty of Visits from Fans
When the home’s current owners move out, it will be “ending years of fan pilgrimages for the family that owned it,” KHOU points out. “Derrick Mitchell and his family bought the home in Riverside Terrace in 2012, and for more than a decade, curious fans regularly showed up outside to snap photos, shoot social media videos and sometimes even ask to come inside. The Mitchells were always gracious hosts, tolerating the attention that came with owning a piece of pop culture history.”
“Back in 2018, the Mitchell family said they didn’t mind the fuss and polite intrusions from fans making the trek to the Third Ward neighborhood to catch a glimpse of where the superstar spent part of her childhood,” per KHOU.
As for passing the keys to the next owner, KHOU notes that “Mitchell said he’s not even sure the new buyer knows what they’re getting into. He doesn’t even know if the buyer is even aware of the home’s history.”
