Dolly Parton Was Admitted To The Hospital Shortly Before Her Death

Before her passing, Parton was admitted to the hospital on the morning of Friday, Aug. 21, with kidney and autoimmune issues, TMZ reports. She ultimately died on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 25. The cause of death is unclear at this time.

News of Parton’s passing was announced by her nephew, who was also her security guard. He shared a message on social media.

“My name is Brian Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” he said in the video. “This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now.

“It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly,” he added. “Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countess other who have watched her and longe for her to meet them in the heavens.”

Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Dean were married for 58 years.

Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, passed away in March 2025 after nearly 60 years of marriage. And she recently opened up about life without him, speaking candidly in an Instagram video in May 2026.

“I want you to know also that a lot of you have been concerned about me and Carl, and you were so great about that,” Parton said. “But after going through a year of firsts, I mean the holidays, and especially our wedding anniversary, and the date of his death, March 3, that was hard for me.”

“But I will always love him, and I will always miss him, but you would be surprised at how much your love and concern meant to me during that time,” she added.

However, following his passing, Parton said she was overwhelmed by the love and support from her fans.

“Lord, my house and my porch looked like the botanical gardens with all the flowers, and my den looked like the post office with all the cards and letters,” Parton said. “So, yes, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you; you have been a big part of my healing.”
