Country artist Ella Langley opened up about her decision to take a break from music this summer to focus on her mental and physical health.
The “Country Boy’s Dream Girl” singer, 26, addressed the crowd during night one of her back-to-back shows at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on November 6.
Ella Langley ‘Found Herself’ During Her Break From Music
“I took a couple of weeks off this year, and I hadn’t really spoken a lot about it since,” she began, as seen in a video on Instagram. “Since I graduated high school, seriously, I’ve put this thing number one in my life above everything else, above myself, really. My band and I got to a point this year where we were looking in the mirror and didn’t recognize ourselves the way we used to. We were tired. We needed a break. We had been doing this every weekend forever….we just needed a break.”
“I can’t explain how much that changed my life,” Langley added. “I got to go back home and spend more time there than I had spent at home since I left. I bought my first house, and I got to sit in it for the first time. I got to sit there and see what is happening in my life and the thing that I’m working so hard for, and how it is changing my life and my family’s life.”
Langley — who is back in the full swing of things — explained, “It took me going back home to find my roots.”
“I felt like I had found myself in a way that I’ve never found myself, but also, I was more me than I had been in a lot of years, if that makes any sense,” she told the crowd.
Ella Langley Announced She Was Taking a Break This Summer
The “You Look Like You Love Me” artist previously took to social media to inform fans she would be canceling a series of shows in order to focus on her health.
“I’m sad to be posting this. The past several weeks have been touch,” Langley began in a statement posted via Instagram on August 11. “I’ve been fighting sickness and feeling more run down than ever. After a lot of thought, I’ve made the hard decision to take a couple of weeks to rest and focus on my health — mind, body and heart. I want to be fully present for all the moments ahead, and I know I can’t do that without first taking care of myself.”
She continued, “Sometimes we have to listen when our bodies and hearts are telling us to slow down. I’m so grateful for your understanding and your love — it truly means the world to me.”
Langley took the last couple weeks of August to recover and “rejuvenate” before getting back on the road in September.
