Hudson’s tribute on Instagram reads: “Well, our hearts just shattered hearing this news. Dolly was a light in this world. What an extraordinary life she lived, and what a gift she gave to all of us. To me, she represented the very best of what it means to be an artist. She understood that art is not only about expressing yourself. It is about reaching outward, bringing people together and making them feel less alone. Her joy was generous. It was not naive. It was born out of resilience, courage and an open heart. She took everything life gave her and turned it into music, laughter, kindness and love.”
Hudson continued, “She gave love freely and spent her life spreading it. There was such strength in her spirit and such tenderness in the way she connected with people. She made everyone feel invited in. As an artist, she reminded me why we do this in the first place. Not simply to create, but to connect. To give something of ourselves. To fill people’s hearts and, if we are lucky, leave the world with a little more joy and love than we found it. What a life, what a spirit, what a legacy. Hudson’s mother, Goldie Hawn, also penned a touching tribute to the country music icon after the news of her death was revealed on Tuesday, August 25. Hawn covered Parton’s “My Blue Tears” for her 1972 album, “Goldie,” and reflected on their first meeting and the late singer’s character in her Instagram tribute, referring to her as a “celestial being.”
Parton’s death was announced in a video statement on Instagram by her nephew Brian Seaver. “My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you,” Seaver said in the touching statement about his aunt. “She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD and on your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family whether you liked it or not. Our family and the team she has entrusted with her legacy will work diligently to ensure her spirit will live with us forever.”
He continued, “Dolly was a farmer, just like her daddy; he farmed the soil, she farmed songs and happiness. Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.”
Details have since emerged, revealing that Parton was privately battling cancer. She was 80 at the time of her death.
