Australian singer, songwriter, and actress Kylie Minogue has paid tribute to the late Dolly Parton following her sad passing yesterday at the age of 80. Parton died after a short but incredibly brave battle with cancer.
“Princess of Pop” Minogue, 58, was a huge fan of “Queen of Country” Parton, telling British morning talk show “Good Morning Britain” in 2018 that she would love to work with her.
The pair met at least twice. Per Huffpost, on one occasion, Minogue wrapped her arms around Parton’s waist and said something like “Australia loves you.” On another occasion in 2019, per Metro, the pair met at the Savoy Theatre in London for the evening gala for “9-5: The Musical” (a rare picture of that meeting can be seen below in Minogue’s tribute to the star).
Minogue — who rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s with songs like “The Loco-Motion,” “I Should Be So Lucky” and “Tears on My Pillow” — took to social media to pay her respects to “Jolene” and “9 to 5” singer Parton.
Kylie Minogue Calls Dolly Parton Her ‘Forever Inspiration’
Kylie Minogue shared her tribute to the late, great Dolly Parton with the 3.5 million followers on her Instagram account.
The post includes a carousel of four photographs and one video. The video is simply a signed picture of Parton addressed to Minogue, with the camera zooming in on the signature. The pictures include a framed signed picture of Parton, also addressed to Minogue, the aforementioned picture of Parton and Minogue together in 2019, a picture of Parton’s 2020 book “Songteller: My Life in Lyrics,” and a picture of a vest with the words “What would Dolly do?” printed on it (whether or not it’s Minogue wearing the vest isn’t clear).
Minogue’s caption on her post reads, “A true icon and forever inspiration. Dolly, I will always love you. 🤍”
Parton’s 1973 song “My Tennessee Mountain Home,” the title track from the album of the same name, plays over the post.
Minogue’s fans and followers flocked to her post’s comments section to have their say on it and pay their own respects to Parton.
