Brenda Song is getting candid about body positivity. The 38-year-old actress has two sons with Macaulay Culkin. Song told Us Magazine about the emotional journey she’s been on since becoming a mother. She detailed coming to terms with the changes in her body and how she normally functions.
Song said it took her some time to process her comfort level. The “Suite Life” actress has continued her career while remaining a full-time mother. Her perspective shed light on the nuances behind being a career woman and a parent.
Brenda Song Initially Struggled Because Of Body Changes
Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin have been together since 2017. The actors first met on the set of the film “Changeland.” The couple were engaged in 2022 but have remained unmarried. The pair welcomed their first son, Dakota Song Culkin, in 2021. Their second son, Carson Song Culkin, was born the following year in 2022.
Speaking to Us Magazine, Song revealed her initial lack of confidence with changes to her body. The actress admitted it was a necessary step to accept it as a natural part of aging. Among the ways she reconciled this was to make deliberate changes to her own sense of fashion.
“I think when you’re a parent, you just don’t have the time to think about your own personal style or to think about yourself anymore,” Song said to the outlet. “So it took me, actually, a minute. I actually really struggled the first couple years after having two kids because my body had changed, what was important to me in my wardrobe changed, and there was a second there where I was like, ‘I don’t feel confident in my body, I’m just gonna wear sweats.’”
Brenda Song’s Career Is Still On The Rise
Song’s career continues to flourish with frequent credits to her name. She was seen in multiple films after welcoming her children, including 2024’s “The Last Showgirl” and “Operation Taco Gary’s,”. In 2025, she had a voice role in “Zootopia 2” alongside Macaulay Culkin. Song is currently shooting the Eva Longoria-directed “The Fifth Wheel,” starring Kim Kardashian and Nikki Glazer.
Song has been extremely prolific on television. The actress starred in “Dollface” while welcoming her two children. She continued onscreen with a starring voice role in “Blue Eye Samurai.” Song is currently one of the main cast members of the Netflix sports comedy, which was renewed for a third season.
The actress has also ventured into business endeavors. Song spoke to Us Magazine while promoting her partnership with Marshalls for the Fall Fashion Field Guide. The collaboration turns Song’s initial struggles with body changes into a story of regaining her confidence.
Brenda Song Has Turned Her Body Journey Into A Source Of Inspiration
According to Brenda Song, “finding comfort” led to her next step in her stylistic evolution. The actress spoke of the “trial and error” involved in getting the required fashion right. Song kept everything from budget, lifestyle, and ageing in mind when cultivating her current collection.
“It was me trying on a million different things, trying on these different archetypes to see what felt the most to me,” Song told Us Magazine. “And knowing that I can’t follow all the trends, but I can find ways to incorporate it into my wardrobe and still feel hip and cool.”
Song’s main goal is to help consumers find what suits them best. The “Suite Life” star intends to inspire the same sense of confidence she achieved. The partnership with Marshalls represents the control Song took over her own life’s narrative.
“It’s not about finding that exact jacket. It’s about finding a version of that jacket you feel confident in, that you like and that suits your lifestyle,” she explained. “I just want to make it easy for women and people to still feel confident and still feel on trend, but accessible.”
