Adults may have had some thoughts, but the kids were ready to see the live-action “Moana” in theaters. Of course, the summer is a busy time, and not everyone managed to get there. Some people decided to wait for the live-action Disney movie to hit streaming or DVD. In some great news, Disney has set some of the dates.
The Digital and DVD release dates are set. Right now, there is no Disney+ streaming date, although the expectation is that it will arrive sometime in the middle of October. Buying on Digital or DVD is going to be the first way to watch at home.
When Is ‘Moana’ Coming to Digital?
DisneyThe Digital date is set, and it’s going to be here sooner than you realize. You’ll be able to buy “Moana” via Prime Video, Apple, Google Play, and other ways you purchase Digital copies from Sept. 8, 2026.
This tends to be just the movie itself, but there may be some featurettes available. If you can wait for the DVD, Blu-Ray, or 4K versions of the live-action Disney Princess release, then it’s usually worth it. Plus, you can get a code for the digital copy!
There will be a Digital bundle, though! If you haven’t bought the animated “Moana” movie and its sequel, “Moana 2,” then you’ll want to check out the deals.
When Is ‘Moana’ Coming to DVD and Blu-Ray?
DisneyAs for the physical release, that’s almost a month later. “Moana” will be available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K — along with a Steelbook version — on Oct. 6, 2026. Like with the digital copy, you’ll be able to get a DVD bundle with all three movies that Disney has released. It’s a great way to make sure you have access to everything that you like whenever you want to watch!
There are plenty of bonus features for those who love a deeper dive into the magical world. The following are included, although features differ based on version:

What Is ‘Moana’ About?
DisneyJust like the original movie, “Moana” takes us on a journey across the Pacific, following one girl who is on a quest to save her people. She is joined by demigod Maui, who stole the heart of the mother island goddess, Te Fiti, and that led to the release of a fiery lava demon. Now, Moana needs to convince Maui to return the heart and bring balance back to nature.
Much of the movie follows the same storyline as the original animated version, following the patterns of “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast” from Disney. While it sank with critics, it did hold up with families, especially those with younger children, who adore the music and the story of the titular lead’s inner strength.
