Television presenter and celebrity chef Dave Myers died from cancer in February 2024. He was 66. The late star was best known for being part of “The Hairy Bikers” along with fellow chef, Si King. Now, his belongings will go to auction as his widow, Liliana, discusses how she processes her grief and how this move will be a way to celebrate Myers.
Dave Myers’ Personal Items to Be Auctioned
Over 300 items are going up for sale on September 8. The day is especially significant because it would have been Myers’ 69th birthday. The belongings include antiques, paintings, and art, as well as deeply personal items. Daily Mail reports that the auction items include a handwritten letter from Sir Roger Moore, Myers’ motorbike leathers, and the items he wore while competing on the BBC dance competition, “Strictly Come Dancing.”
The proceeds will fund a good cause and will be partly donated to NSPCC Childline.
In an appearance on “This Morning” this week, the Daily Mail reports that Liliana discussed why she put Myers’ things on sale. “I wanted to celebrate his birthday in a special way, and I know that he loved the public and his fans a lot,” she said. “He was larger than life, and what better way to celebrate his life than giving some of his precious belongings to the public. It was healing very much so. Grieving is a very personal thing. Grief comes in lots of different shapes.”
She continued, “It’s a way of celebrating him, celebrating the fantastic person he was, the explosion of energy he was.”
Liliana discussed her decision to sell Myers’ beloved “Strictly Come Dancing” items, including his shoes. “He brought home two pairs, I kept one and one is here. He absolutely loved that experience,” she said, the Daily Mail reports. “The man could not dance, and Karen [Hauer] his dance partner said about him, ‘Dave, you don’t have two left feet, you have seven left feet’. And she had to teach him to walk straight before any dancing steps… he was walking slanted. She tied him with straps and made him walk straight before anything!”
Remembering Dave Myers & His Legacy
Auctioning such personal items may make fans feel closer to Myers. His fans, as well as those who knew and loved him, miss him deeply. King has made no secret of the tremendous loss he feels since his good friend and colleague passed away.
On June 20, he posted a throwback photo of Myers on his bike on Instagram. In the caption, he shared his thoughts, writing, “Happy Dave day mate. I know Dave would be immensely thankful to every single one of you. He may not be with us in person, but his spirit will be there with you all, every mile of the way. Look after each other, ride safe and enjoy every moment. God bless. Thinking of you all.”
King was also the person who announced Myers’ passing, which he did in a post on X. “I’m afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years,” he wrote, revealing that his friend passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones.
“All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own,” he shared. “Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you God’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”
