Yes, the auditions are done, and it’s time for the real tests to start for these 20 amateur chefs on “MasterChef” 2026. The “MasterChef” judges — Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Tiffany Derry — have handed out all 20 of the aprons for this cooking competition. Here’s a look at the 20 amateur cooks competing on “MasterChef” 2026 below.
‘MasterChef’ Season 16 Spoilers
We watched the final round of auditions last week on FOX. The judges have handed out all 20 of the aprons, and we are ready to start the next round of competition.
For those unfamiliar, the theme for this new season is Global Gauntlet. The amateur chefs will be focused on flavors from around the world. The contestants will be tested on their ability to cook diverse international dishes. They will need to move beyond the standard American fare.
In the spirit of the World Cup coming to America this summer, “MasterChef” is bringing homecooks representing four worldwide regions: the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Africa. Each region had five aprons available, so 20 chefs moved on past the audition rounds.
Now these amateur chefs will take part in several types of challenges during the season until a winner is announced. Those challenges are:
- Mystery Box Challenges – This challenge features the contestants receiving a box of unknown ingredients. Using all of those ingredients, they must create a dish with creativity and presentation being key.
- Pressure Tests – This challenge forces the chefs to replicate complex dishes in a certain amount of time. Any mistakes in these challenges could lead to elimination.
- Team Challenges – The judges also like to pair up the chefs and have them work together in teams. These types of challenges include the teams catering events or creating large-scale meals. This is a chance for the judges to test their leadership, teamwork, and consistency.
- Elimination Rounds – At the end of each episode, that episode’s weakest performers face elimination. Those low performers are tasked with creating dishes with certain ingredients or techniques. The contestant with the least favorite dish will be eliminated.
