Week 8 Begins
We have Restaurant Wars this week. The chefs are working on their menus, as a new week has started! Kristen comes in to talk with the chefs. She lets them know that Jennifer is out of the competition. They offered her spot to Justin, who decided to go take care of Jennifer. That means the last, last eliminated chef was offered the spot, so Sieger rejoins the competition! He will replace Jennifer, so he joins the team of Brandon, Jonathan, and Oscar.
The teams are working on their menus, which must feature three courses, but then two options for each course. They also have to serve to-go orders. They decide on restaurant names:
- Tierra Reina – Oscar, Brandon, Jonathan, and Sieger
- Carolina Queen – Laurence, Anthony, Duyen, and Sherry
Tierra Reina will be doing a Latin-Southern fusion menu, and Carolina Queen is going to be having two threads, with the Carolinas being one and comfort food being the other. The teams then discuss their menus.
Prep Day
The teams have 36 hours to get their restaurants in place. For this day, they are heading out to get rentals in place, dinnerware, and everything for the actual restaurant space in order. Then they also need to get their ingredients for their dishes.
Duyen is working Front of House for Carolina Queen, and Anthony opted for Executive Chef since he has immunity this week. Tierra Reina is all guys, so trying not to make it a mancave.
Now the teams head out to get their ingredients for the menus.
We are back in the kitchen, and the teams are working on prepping their dishes for the next day. Sieger will be Executive Chef for Tierra Reina, with Oscar serving as Front of House.
Brandon and Jonathan are excited to be working side-by-side for Restaurant Wars. Tom Colicchio then comes into the kitchen with Chef Michael Mina to check on the teams on “Top Chef” season 23. They liked where they were headed.
The time runs out for the day. The chefs are prepped, but Duyen was hoping she could have gotten more time in the front of house.
Restaurant Wars Is Here
The teams arrive back in their restaurants. They have four hours left to cook before service begins.
Duyen and Oscar are working with the front-of-house staff as they get the dining rooms in place. They are trying to get everything in place and everyone on the same page.
We have time running out, and the restaurants will be opening soon. Jonathan and Brandon are behind on prepping vegetables/garnish for service.
Time to Open Shop
The time has run out, as it’s now time to open those restaurant doors. The customers have arrived. We then see the judges arrive at Carolina Queen. Tasting for these dishes:
- First Course: For Sherry’s dish, the judges said they loved it. They loved the coconut milk and said it spoke to her background. For Duyen’s dish, they said the flavor is great. It’s a great start.
Meanwhile, Anthony is taking to-go orders himself as those start coming in, and people in the restaurant and the judges need to be served. The pressure is on Carolina Queen. Things seem to be running smoothly for Tierra Reina, as Carolina Queen serves their second course to the judges:
- Second Course: For Laurence’s dish, the skin of the pork is chewy. They said it was nicely executed, but not a risk-taker of a dish. For Anthony’s dish, the rice is overcooked and mushy. They said the texture is off, as it’s too much sauce with the okra.
For Tierra Reina, they are having ticket issues. Wrong table numbers, so food is going out to the wrong tables and getting sent back. For Carolina Queen, the judges said it’s very calm in the dining room, but not a lot of food on the other tables. In the back of the house, they are all a mess. They are behind on tickets, diners aren’t getting food, to-go orders are coming in, and people are waiting to be seated.
Everyone Is Happy
While Carolina Queen is way behind, Duyen tells the judges that everyone is happy. The desserts arrive, so time for tasting their final dishes:
- Third Course: For Sherry’s dessert, they liked the peanut butter and the texture. Kristen said it’s eating like frosting, and she means that in a complimentary way. For Laurence, they said the flavors are there, the ideas are there, just a little execution. Tom wanted a layer of sweet potatoes in with the pecans.
Overall, the judges seemed happy. They said the hospitality was very good, but now they are off to their second reservation on “Top Chef” 2026.
Over at Tierra Reina, they are still having issues with tickets and tables. They are now getting ready for turnover and the next set of diners coming in, including the judges.
Tierra Reina On the Clock
The judges have arrived at Tierra Reina. They said it’s definitely a different vibe, more energetic. Oscar comes over to greet them, and he is killing it with his jokes. However, the kitchen isn’t killing it. The judges are waiting over 30 minutes without any drinks or appetizers.
For Carolina Queen, a to-go order comes in and is missing a pecan pie and utensils. It took 40 minutes, but the judges finally got served their first dishes at Tierra Reina:
- First Course: For Sieger’s dish, they said they loved the dish. They liked the sweet potato and chili crunch. Kristen wanted a sauce or something to bring it all together. Gail said she didn’t like the presentation, and it felt messy. For Jonathan’s dish, they said it was a refreshing way to start the dinner. It was extremely well-balanced and all-around good.
Tierra Reina seems to have gotten their ticket issue under control. That helps them get things caught up some. Now they are serving the second course to the judges:
- Second Course: For Jonathan’s dish, they said his cod was flaky. They said it’s a good dish, and the fish is cooked beautifully. For Oscar’s dish, they said they would come back to this restaurant over and over again for this dish. Kristen said Oscar homered on this one for her.
Judges Are Torn
The judges are torn with things, as they are impressed with Carolina Queen and their service. However, the entrees for Tierra Reina may have just pushed them past. They now get their desserts out for the judges:
- Third Course: For Sieger’s dish, they aren’t enjoying it. Tom said flavor-wise, it’s okay, it’s just not a dessert. The presentation was lacking, and no elegance to the plating. For Brandon’s dish, they are getting a lot of inconsistently cooked rice. This was a big letdown.
The judges are done at both restaurants. They said the takeout orders and those comments will factor into their decision tonight, also. Tierra Reina serves their last tickets, and it looks like everyone is happy with things.
Judges’ Table on ‘Top Chef’ Season 23
The chefs arrive in front of the judges. Tom said they had clear concepts, food that was mostly delicious. This was tough, as they both did a really good job.
The judges give more feedback on all of the dishes. We get positive reviews for both Duyen and Oscar on front of house, as they felt like they were the actual owners. Kristen said it’s a fine line between the winners and the losers, and they have a hard decision to make.
We definitely have some torn judges, but they finally come up with a decision, and the chefs return to the Judges’ Table for the results.
Results: The winning team is Carolina Queen. For winning, they each get a vacation for themselves and a guest to the four Universal Orlando theme parks. They also get a meet-and-greet with the Universal Orlando culinary team. The individual who wins tonight is Duyen, but no immunity for her since it’s over.
The least favorite restaurant was Tierra Reina. Tom said one chef didn’t really pull their weight. Because of that, Brandon was eliminated tonight. However, he heads to the finale of “Last Chance Kitchen” to fight his way back into the competition.
BravoWhat do you think of tonight’s results?
