Mario Lopez Brings Real-Life Family to the Screen in Holiday GAF Movie Moments

Mario Lopez is once again proving he’s no stranger to holiday magic—or heartfelt family moments. In a recent interview with Great American Journal, the 52-year-old actor opened up about teaming up with his real-life family in a string of Great American Family films.

Mario Lopez Celebrates the Holidays On-Screen With Family

The former “X Factor” host and “Dancing with the Stars” contestant initially made his Great American Family debut in 2024 with “Once Upon a Christmas Wish.”

In the hit film, Lopez portrayed Mayor Brian Ortega, a hometown hero who reconnects with the magic of Christmas after finding his childhood wish list. The role wasn’t just special because of its heartwarming message—it was also a full-family affair.

Speaking with Great American Journal, Lopez revealed, “I really wanted my family to be involved in my first film for Great American Family. So, my wife, who’s wildly talented, sings, dances, acts [in this film] beautifully [as well as] my son, Dominic, who also sings, dances and acts. I was honored to have them be in the film with me. This is a very special project, and it’s come together great. And I’m very proud of them.”

Mario’s wife, Courtney Lopez, took on the role of Nina, the mayor’s childhood friend and love interest.

Mario Lopez’s Return to Great American Family with New Holiday Films

Following the success of his debut, Lopez returned to Great American Family in “The Christmas Spark,” which premiered in November 2025.

In the film, he stars as a former corporate lawyer who leaves behind a high-powered career to join the local fire department. While navigating his new role, he falls for the widowed mother of a young firefighter—adding a new layer of emotional depth to the storyline.

This year, Lopez took on a behind-the-scenes role as producer for “Mario Lopez Presents: Chasing Christmas,” a festive film about two single parents and their children who come together to fulfill a wish from a local angel tree.

The project marked a special milestone for Lopez’s family, with his son Dominic stepping into a starring role as the son of main character Mia.

“When I would watch his movies and see him on the big screen, I thought it was really cool,” Dominic told Great American Family.

With his growing portfolio at Great American Family, Lopez continues to champion heartfelt storytelling centered on love, hope and family—on and off the screen.
