Alicia Witt Addresses Her Absence From Hallmark Christmas Movies: ‘It Was Never My Choice to Stop’

Five years after Alicia Witt last appeared in a Hallmark movie — 2020’s “Christmas Tree Lane” — fans continue to ask her when and if she’ll return to the network.

On October 3, 2025, the singer and actress provided an update in the comment section of her latest social media post while promoting her upcoming holiday concert tour.

Alicia Witt Says Hallmark Execs Know She’d Be Happy to Return

Witt appeared in multiple Hallmark Christmas movies from 2014 to 2020, per IMDb. She has since navigated major personal hurdles, including fighting breast cancer and the tragic death of her parents. But Witt has also focused her energy on her music career and feature film work, including the 2024 hit indie thriller “Longlegs” co-starring Nicolas Cage.

When numerous fans asked in the comment section of her latest post about her status with Hallmark, Witt replied to one of them that the primary reason for her absence was leadership changes at the network.

“I’m SO grateful for the movies i made for them,” Witt wrote, “especially since so many of you found my music this way ❤️ since the leadership at Hallmark changed over 5 years ago, i stopped getting offered movies there, along with some other ‘regulars.'”

Witt continued, “and then i started getting a lot of work in feature films 🙂 you know what they say about god opening a window when a door closes 🌠 i have 4 theatrical movies coming out at this time – after having made Longlegs last year.”

“But I remain most open to making another christmas movie in the future if they were to offer me one (and @hallmarkchannel knows this). but please know it was never my choice to stop making them  🙃 hope to see you at one of the shows on my christmas tour!!”

Alicia Witt Has Channeled Grief & Changes Into Her Art

Hallmark Media has gone through multiple leadership changes since Witt was last on the network. Hallmark severed ties with former CEO Bill Abbott in early 2020, and beloved programming executive Michelle Vicary left in 2021. But after multiple changes at the top, Vicary returned to Hallmark in August to oversee programming.

In addition to navigating personnel changes at Hallmark, Witt was also sidelined for a while by some heavy personal hurdles. In December 2021, she quietly began treatment for HER2+ breast cancer, per People, deciding not to publicly disclose her diagnosis until she’d finished six rounds of chemotherapy and a unilateral mastectomy.

Weeks later, her parents were found dead in their Massachusetts home due to exposure to the cold, according to the Associated Press. Witt wrote in a January 2022 Facebook post that her heart was broken and that she was overcome by “overwhelming floods of grief.”

Witt channeled some of her grief into her music, releasing an emotional song in March 2023 called “Witness”, which she described on social media at the time as “a deeply personal anthem about getting thru an unimaginably hard chapter – and coming out the other side, forever changed.”

  1. Alicia said it best when she said there were leadership changes and they ignored her and other regulars. Hallmark sells cards talking about compassion, forgiveness, loyalty but does not practice it and it shows in how they treat the viewers who pay for the cable Halmark channels. They made Movies and Mysteries cable channel into mysteries only and all you see are reruns of the same shows. The new mystery movies don’t even premiere on the mystery channel anymore.
I got rid of paying for something that I watched 3o years ago.

    • I won’t waste money on their cards. We spend enough on their regular channels and are cheated out of favorite who have moved to new channels we don’t get. I miss Alicia so much and checked Great American Family to see if she went there. Might be a better idea since Hallmark doesn’t make viewers happy anymore.

  3. My wife and I both enjoyed movies with Alicia Witt. I agree with previous posts that she might find a better fit at Great American Family, and their Christmas movies. My personal belief is that Hallmark has lost their way. I believe they are losing their base that put them where they were, high atop a conservative and family oriented Christian platform. Fortunately Great American Family has stepped in to fill the void. I personally watch very little Hallmark programming. Only what my wife finds that still offer remnants of their former values.
