Earlier this February, Melissa Gilbert’s husband, Timothy Busfield, 68, was officially indicted by a New Mexico grand jury on four counts of criminal sexual contact of a child, NBC News reported.
Following news of Busfield’s indictment — about two weeks after he was released from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County, N.M. — his wife, Gilbert, 61, was greeted with an outpouring of support from her Hallmark and “Little House on the Prairie” family.
Fans shared their uplifting messages for the “WCTH” star in the comments of a photo of Gilbert posted on the Modern Prairie Instagram.

Timothy Busfield’s Indictment
GettyBernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman announced the indictment in a press statement on Friday, Feb. 6, saying that the case will be prosecuted by his office’s special victims unit.
Bregman added, “As with all criminal proceedings, Mr. Busfield is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. This case will proceed through the judicial process and is expected to move forward to trial.”
Before Busfield was released without bail on Jan. 20, Gilbert wrote a desperate plea to Judge David Murphy to protect her husband from the uncertain solitude of confinement.
“So, I will close by asking you to please, please, take care of my sweet husband,” Gilbert explained in her letter, People reported. “As he is my protector, I am his, but I cannot protect him now, and I think that, more than anything else, is what is truly breaking my heart. I am relying on you to protect him for me.”
Melissa Gilbert’s Return to Hallmark’s ‘WCTH’
Despite Busfield’s ongoing case, Gilbert made her return to Hallmark’s “When Calls the Heart” during season 13, episode 6. During which, she reprised her role as Georgie McGill to help solve the wildfire case in Hope Valley. When Georgie arrived in town, she brought a polygraph test, leading to even more answered questions than bargained for.
