After stepping away from acting, Amanda Bynes has fans buzzing thanks to the fact that she’s just signed a record deal and dropped new music. Her first release in four years, the star has deemed her EDM and rap-inspired track “Girlfriend” — and you definitely have to check it out!
‘Girlfriend’ Boasts an ‘Uptempo Dance Beat’
Bynes’ new song — that also features Zabba and Fenix Flexin — “features an uptempo dance beat with some Auto-Tune,” according to People. Take a listen to the tune that’s now available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music, and you’ll hear her sing, “My friends love hearing about you / I love everything you do / I wanna be your girlfriend.”
“My inspiration was a lot of EDM as well as rap,” Bynes told E! News ahead of the song’s release. Indeed, her label Create Music Group — which has worked with other stars like Jason Derulo and Deadmau5 — told E! in a statement that the song “blends melodic rap with EDM-inspired production, creating a catchy, high-replay record with a smooth West Coast bounce.”
The label added, “Built around a strong hook and confident, flirt-heavy energy, it’s designed for repeat listens and wide playlist appeal.”
To mark the release, Bynes shared an image from the new track’s video on Instagram — showing lilac snow, frosted trees and a pink sky — which prompted plenty of comments from her followers.
One person wrote, “I speak for everyone when I say we want more music and more Amanda ❤️❤️”
“Get into your music era girl ✨✨,” another fan added.
A third social media user left a comment, saying, “This is so good, I’m so happy for you!!!”
This Isn’t the First Time Amanda Has Released Music
Although plenty of fans will surely remember Bynes from her acting days when she appeared in both popular shows and beloved movies, she has been focused on music for a few years now.
E! notes that Bynes “initially got into the rap game in 2021, releasing a 58-second track ‘Diamonds’ with then-fiancé Paul Michael. … The duo dropped a longer version of the song, as well as another single titled ‘Fairfax,’ in 2022.”
Along with recording and releasing music, Bynes graduated from Los Angeles’ Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in 2019, and, per E!, “dipped her toe into podcasting with Paul Sieminski by launching Amanda Bynes & Paul Sieminski: The Podcast in 2023. Plus, she participated in an art show and clothing pop-up in December 2024, where she featured multiple pieces of her art.”
