Goo Goo Dolls have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of their Canadian tour as lead singer John Rzeznik continues his recovery from pneumonia.
The band shared the update in a heartfelt message on social media on Sunday, April 5, confirming that upcoming stops, including Laval, Quebec, and Halifax, Nova Scotia, will no longer move forward.
Getty“Unfortunately, we must cancel the remaining dates on our Canadian Tour…We are very disappointed and can’t wait to get back to Canada as soon as possible,” the band wrote.
John Rzeznik ‘Has Not Fully Recovered’ From Illness
The announcement comes after several earlier cancellations in the week, when the band called off shows in Sault Ste. Marie, Oshawa, and Hamilton due to Rzeznik’s health.
According to the band, the frontman “has not fully recovered” after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Ticket Refunds Issued for Canceled Shows

While disappointing for fans, the decision reflects a focus on Rzeznik’s recovery and the band’s long-term health.
Fans Rally Around John Rzeznik With Messages of Support
Following the announcement, fans quickly filled social media with messages of support, many urging Rzeznik to prioritize his health and recovery above all else. Several fans acknowledged how difficult the decision must have been and expressed relief that the band chose to step back.
One fan wrote: “That is absolutely the right decision @johnrzeznikggd! I know how difficult it was for you to cancel these shows, but health comes first, and it would have been dangerous for you to continue to try to push through with pneumonia! I can’t believe you were able to actually make it through last night – I was really concerned and even nervous that you were going to pass out at some point and hurt yourself! Get some rest, my friend, you need it, and you deserve it!”
Others kept their messages simple, focusing on encouragement and well-wishes.
“Get well soon, John, your health is more important. ❤️”
GettyMany fans shared heartfelt notes, reminding him that he is not alone during this time.
“Johnny, I’m really rooting for your recovery. I hope you get better soon and feel healthy and full of energy again. Take good care of yourself, get plenty of rest, and don’t forget that someone here is thinking of you and sending only positive vibes your way. Everything is going to be okay. I Love you ❤️”
Some also reflected on the realities of touring and the importance of stepping back when needed.
“Yes, it sucks for the Canadian fans, and those who may have travel arrangements. It’s inconvenient for those, but money comes and goes, and our health is the most important. You are not 21 anymore. You all need to please take a break, rest, and recover. You’re exhausting your bodies 🥹 we’d rather wait for all the band members to get back on the road when everyone is in better health standards 🙏🏾🙏🏾 sending you all so much optimism and him a speedy recovery❤️”
Fans who attended recent shows also shared concern, noting how hard Rzeznik had been pushing through his illness.
“I can’t believe how good you sounded last night, singing with pneumonia, with your little table of cold meds side stage, blowing your nose and coughing between songs, and the way you were running around between songs… I hope you didn’t push it too hard and cause a setback to your voice and overall health. Get well soon, we love you!!”
Another fan shared: “Aww. You were fantastic in London but I could see that was really hard for you to push through. Thank you for coming. ❤️”
As the messages continue to pour in, the overwhelming sentiment remains one of care and patience, with fans encouraging him to rest, recover, and return when he is ready.
