Hilary Duff Shares Optimistic Thoughts on Rift with Sister Haylie Duff: ‘I Hope It’s Not Forever’

Hilary Duff recently shared an optimistic perspective on her strained relationship with her sister Haylie Duff.

While appearing on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast, Hilary admitted to a rift with Haylie. However, she appears to be hopeful that it will be resolved one day.

Hilary Duff is Holding Out Some Hope to Reconcile with Haylie Duff

In promoting her new album “luck…or something,” Hilary Duff has continued to speak out about her falling out with her sister, Haylie Duff.

“My sister and I don’t speak,” said Hilary on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast. “And I think in my adulthood, I’ve come across more and more people that are having this experience.”

In spite of their estrangement, the “Lizzie McGuire” actress is optimistic that they will reconnect one day. “I hope it’s not forever, but it’s for right now,” continued Hilary on the podcast.

While Hilary has not spoken about the reason behind the rift, both stars haven’t been publicly photographed together since 2019.

Fans suspected the sisters were feuding after a fan uploaded a video on X of Hilary performing her song, “We Don’t Talk” in January 2026.

“‘Cause we come from the same home, the same blood / A different combination but the same lock,” she sings on the track (per Genius).

Even in the song, Hilary expresses that she would be open to talking to Haylie whenever Haylie is open to it.

“Let’s have it out / I’ll hear you out, you’ll hear me out on the couch,” the track continues. “Get back to how we were as kids / Let’s break it down / So sick of being so sad about / How we don’t talk and you won’t talk about it.”

Hilary Duff’s estrangement with her sister Haylie Duff is sadly not where her family drama ends. The “Lizzie McGuire” actress has also revealed that she doesn’t have a great relationship with her parents either.

On her album, “luck…or something,” Hilary sings of the strained relationship with her divorced parents, Bob and Susan Duff, on another track, “The Optimist.

“I think [it’s about] being very vulnerable and open about what it’s like to be in a family that your parents aren’t together and you don’t have relationships with both of your parents,” she said of the track while appearing on the “On Purpose With Jay Shetty” podcast.

The “Younger” star added, “It’s devastating. It doesn’t matter what age you are. You want your parents to feel like they care about you. And a big portion of my existence hasn’t felt like that.”

In February 2026, Hilary also admitted to Rolling Stone, “There’s times where I talk to my dad and times where I don’t talk to my dad.”

In spite of her family estrangements, the pop star is finding joy in her new music and performing again. She is gearing up for a world tour in June 2026, which will run through February 2027, according to Hilary’s website.

Most of the tour dates have already sold out, showcasing how important and relevant the millennial star still is to fans.

“I do feel like one of my magic tricks is being able to connect with people,” Hilary told Rolling Stone. “To be able to reach them and relate to them, and them feel close to me.”
