A tense scene unfolded Sunday afternoon outside music icon Rihanna’s Beverly Hills home after gunfire was reported near the property. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the police later identified the suspect as 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz. Here is the latest on the case.
Suspect Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge After Gunfire at Rihanna’s Home
Authorities say she was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder after multiple shots were fired toward the residence.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Ortiz was booked for attempted murder. Bail was set at $10,225,000. Officers were dispatched shortly after 1:21 p.m. following a 911 call reporting gunfire near the singer’s home.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Police Say Suspect Fired ‘Approximately 10 Shots’
Investigators say the suspect opened fire from a vehicle positioned across the street from the property.
LAPD radio dispatch audio cited by the Los Angeles Times indicated the woman fired “approximately 10 shots” toward the residence before driving away. Authorities said the suspect then left the area in a white Tesla shortly after the gunfire.
“When they pulled the suspect over and took her into custody, they searched the vehicle and located an assault rifle and seven casings,” said Armen Arias, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Photos shared online appear to show multiple bullet holes in the property’s front gate. See the photos obtained by The Irish Star here. Some reports suggested the weapon may have been an AR-15-style rifle. Police have not confirmed the exact type of firearm involved.
Suspect Tracked by Police and Arrested in Sherman Oaks
After the shooting, officers began searching for the suspect’s vehicle while tracking updates through radio dispatch. As per The New York Post, Authorities described the suspect as having braided hair and wearing a cream-colored blouse. Officers also noted the vehicle appeared dirty along the lower panels.
Air support soon located the white Tesla. Officers followed the vehicle to a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks. Ortiz was taken into custody roughly 30 minutes after the original emergency call. Police later confirmed that bullet damage was discovered at the property, including holes in the front driveway gate and in an RV parked on the grounds.
Rihanna Reportedly Home During the Frightening Incident
Multiple reports, including The Hollywood Reporter, hinted that the superstar was reportedly inside the home when the shooting happened but was not injured.
It remains unclear whether her partner, A$AP Rocky, or their children were at the residence at the time.
The couple shares three young children and lives in a colonial-style home in the Beverly Hills Post Office neighborhood, a quiet residential area of Los Angeles.
Police say investigators have not yet determined a motive behind the shooting.
The incident also recalls a previous security scare involving the singer. In 2018, a man broke into Rihanna’s Hollywood Hills home and stayed inside for several hours before being discovered by a member of her staff.
Authorities are continuing to investigate as they work to determine what led to the gunfire outside the star’s home. Rihanna has not publicly commented or released a statement about the incident.
Authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives continue reviewing evidence.
