Stevie Nicks is remembering Dolly Parton and the special week the two music legends spent together.
“I spent a week with Dolly in Nashville to record one of my songs with her for her ‘Rock Star’ album,” Nicks wrote, calling it the “best week ever.”
According to People, Nicks joined Parton to record “What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done for You” for the country star’s 2023 album “Rockstar.” The collaboration gave Nicks a chance to work closely with Parton, an experience she described as much more than a typical recording session.
“A week with Dolly was like a master class for me,” Nicks wrote. “I tried to be a sponge ~ and learn everything I could learn from her ~ in a very few days.”

Despite Nicks’ own decades-long career with Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist, she said she approached her time with Parton as a student.
“Learning from her was easy because she was a really good teacher,” Nicks shared. “I think she saw me as a really good student; I just tried to listen.”
Parton’s “Rockstar” album brought her country roots together with the rock world through a mix of original music and covers. According to the Daily Mail, the project included collaborations with several major artists, including Sting, Debbie Harry, Ann Wilson and Elton John.
Nicks recalled seeing Parton dive into the genre firsthand as she continued putting the album together.
“She said she could become a rock star ~ and I watched her do it,” Nicks wrote, adding that Parton was still gathering rock songs she wanted to record during their time together.
Nicks had previously shared her excitement over working with Parton. She once posted a photo of the two in the recording studio while celebrating Parton’s birthday, writing, “Had so much fun singing with you!”

Nicks ended her latest tribute with a handwritten poem dedicated to Parton, blending references to the singer’s country and rock music with a heartfelt goodbye.
“Dolly, Dolly, Dolly ~ Rock and Roll & Country,” Nicks wrote before imagining her friend carrying her songs “right up to heaven” and singing them for those she meets there.
The post drew reactions from other stars who admired both women. According to the Daily Mail, Sheryl Crow referred to Nicks and Parton as her “two heroes,” while Dita Von Teese thanked Nicks for sharing the personal tribute.
Parton’s team confirmed that the singer died after a brief battle with cancer, according to People. The statement also honored her work away from the stage, including the millions of books distributed through her Imagination Library and her support of medical research.
Months before her death, Parton spoke about the legacy she hoped to leave behind as she approached her 80th birthday. She said she wanted to continue doing work that could help others and carry on into the future.
For Nicks, however, her farewell centered on the music, memories and friend she was saying goodbye to.
“Dolly, how we’ll miss you,” Nicks wrote. “There’ll never be another you ~ And I will always love you.”
