Welsh Oscar Winner Sir Anthony Hopkins Spotted Filming Latest Project in Homeland

Two-time Academy Award-winning Welsh actor Sir Anthony Hopkins has been spotted filming his latest project in his homeland.

Per the North Wales Chronicle, the 88-year-old icon — who won his two Best Actor gongs for 1991’s thriller “The Silence of the Lambs” and 2020’s psychological drama “The Father” — has been captured on set during filming for his latest project in the county of Gwynedd in the north-west of Wales.

Specifically, Hopkins was spotted on Y Bont Fawr in the town of Dolgellau, Gwynedd. He was seen there on Wednesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 16.

The project he was working on sounds extremely intriguing.

Sir Anthony Hopkins was filming “A Visit To Grandpa’s” in Gwynedd. It’s a movie adaptation of the coming-of-age story of the same name by Welsh poet and writer Dylan Thomas. The story was published in Thomas’ 1971 collection “Miscellany Two.”

Per IMDb, the project’s synopsis reads, “A boy’s summer with his eccentric grandfather on a Welsh farm transforms from expected boredom into magical adventures filled with wild tales and imaginative mischief.”

Starring alongside Hopkins in the drama will be the likes of Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Aneurin Barnard, Artie Wilkinson-Hunt, and Celyn Jones.

According to the North Wales Chronicle, the actor has said of the film, “This is a powerful and profoundly beautiful story, one that allows me to return to my Welsh roots while exploring the remarkable vision and prose of Dylan Thomas.”

He added, “It is a privilege to collaborate once again with D.J. (D.J. Caruso is directing “A Visit to Grandpa’s”), with whom I share a deep creative bond.”

The publication also noted that Ian King, who runs the Dolgellau Facebook page, said of Hopkins, “He turned up in a white Range Rover and talked to the crew and did a scene with the little boy.”

King continued, “I live in the town, and I saw they blocked the bridge off in the morning, so I thought I would pop down later, as it’s only a five-minute walk from home.”

The local resident also noted that he saw Hopkins. He explained, “It looked like something was happening, so I hung around and he turned up 10 minutes later.

He added that Hopkins took the time to speak with onlookers. King said, “I saw him again in the car park later, chatting to the locals and letting them take photos with him. He seemed very friendly.”

Hopkins Remains Incredibly Active

Completely defying his undeniably advancing age, Sir Anthony Hopkins remains incredibly active. He is constantly busy working.

In addition to the upcoming adaptation of “A Visit to Grandpa’s,” the actor has worked on several movies and television shows in recent years.

Per IMDb, in 2024, he worked on the movies “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver” and “Mary,” as well as the epic historical drama television series “Those About to Die.” In 2025, he worked on the movie “Locked.” This year, his black comedy movie “Wife & Dog” will hit theaters. His other upcoming films include “Eyes in the Trees,” “Maserati: The Brothers,” and “The Housekeeper.”

It’s great to see Sir Anthony Hopkins doing so well and keeping active in the world of acting. We hope “A Visit to Grandpa’s” turns out to be another big hit for him.
