He Leaves Behind a Vast Legacy
Cheney began his political career in 1968 as a congressional fellow for Wisconsin Representative William Steiger. From there, he joined the Nixon administration as an assistant at the Office of Economic Opportunity.
According to the George W. Bush White House Archives, he then became the Assistant to the President and White House Chief of Staff under Ford in 1975. He later served an impressive six terms as U.S. Representative for Wyoming’s at-large congressional district.
Before becoming Vice President, he served as the 17th United States Secretary of Defense, a position he held from 1989 to 1993. Later in his career, Cheney became a public speaker and writer. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on forever.
