Following a battle with cancer, “Father Knows Best” star Lauren Chapin died on February 24. She was 80. After the news of her passing, tributes have been pouring in, including one from Chapin’s longtime friend, Erin Murphy.
Erin Murphy Pays Tribute to Lauren Chapin
GettyMurphy paid tribute to Chapin on Facebook on Thursday, February 25. She posted two photos of them: one more recent snap from when they were adults and an older picture from when they were young. The “Bewitched” actress wrote, “Rest in Peace. So sad to share the news of the passing of my friend Lauren Chapin.”
Fans showed support for Murphy in the comment section of her post. “This comes as a huge shock to me, inspite of what Laurie went through. Her Christianity and faith would have given her a lot of healing. Wishing her family and friends much condolences,” a comment reads.
“I watched a documentary last night about her life, which held so much sadness. I’m glad to hear that she also had a beautiful friendship with you. May gentle memories surround you,” another person shared.
Other reactions include, “So sorry for your loss, my the lord be with the family in their time of need,” “Yes ma’am RIP,” and “So sorry to hear of her passing. May her memory always be both a blessing and a comfort to all of us. Rest in peace, ‘Kitten.’”
Erin Murphy & Lauren Chapin’s Friendship
GettyThis is not the first time Murphy has spotlighted their friendship; in a Facebook post from June 2025, she shared the same photos of herself and Chapin as adults, along with another of them as children. “Lauren Chapin from Father Knows Best with me (Erin Murphy from Bewitched). It was such a nice surprise when I walked into a makeup room on set, and the makeup artist’s mom was visiting. It was Lauren Chapin,” she wrote in the caption.
At the time, fans had praised their friendship. “Very neat and you both look great!,” a comment reads. “Great pic Great stuff,” another person shared.
Chapin’s death was announced by her son, Matthew Chapin, in a Facebook post on February 24. “After a long hard fought battle over the past 5 years, the time has come. My mother Lauren Chapin passed away from her battle with cancer tonight,” he wrote. “I’m at a complete loss for words right now. Please keep my sister and family in your thoughts and prayers as we go through this incredibly tough tough.”
