Hailey Bieber is looking back on one of the most frightening moments of her life — and sharing how it reshaped the way she views her health.
During the Feb. 18 episode of “Therapuss,”hosted by influencer Jake Shane, the 29-year-old opened up about the “crazy” medical emergency she experienced in 2022 and how it continues to impact her daily life.
“I just am so fascinated with the body and medicine and doctors,” she told the host.
That fascination, she explained, intensified after she suffered a mini-stroke at age 25.
“A couple of years ago, I had a crazy medical situation. I had a mini stroke,” she shared. “Then I found that I had this heart defect that I was born with, so I had to get surgery for it.”
The Scary Diagnosis and Surgery
In March 2022, Bieber was hospitalized with stroke-like symptoms caused by a blood clot in her brain.
Doctors later determined she had experienced a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), often referred to as a mini-stroke.
Further testing revealed she had a patent foramen ovale (PFO), a small opening in the heart that didn’t properly close after birth.
To correct it, she underwent a minimally invasive procedure.
“They went through my groin and I was in and out of the hospital the same day,” she explained on the podcast, acknowledging how intense it all sounded.
Previously, she described the experience as “the scariest thing I’ve ever gone through,” admitting it left a lasting emotional impact.
Living With Anxiety — and a New Perspective
After the procedure, Bieber said she became “extra hyper-aware” of her body and more diligent about staying on top of her health.
“That situation made me a little bit more nervous about things,” she admitted. “But I’ve just always been really focused and fascinated on health.”
She has previously spoken openly about struggling with anxiety and symptoms of PTSD following the incident.
Returning to Palm Springs — where she was when the health scare happened — felt “very triggering,” she previously said, adding that she feared it might happen again.
“It was so terrifying, so jarring, so discombobulating in every single way,” she once shared.
Still, the ordeal sparked something positive. Bieber said her deepened interest in medicine influenced her approach to skincare and ultimately inspired the creation of her beauty brand, Rhode.
Today, Bieber says she’s grateful for her health and more committed than ever to understanding and caring for her body — proof that even the most frightening chapters can lead to growth.
