Beloved filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner’s bodies were found on December 14, 2025, at their Brentwood, Los Angeles homes. The couple’s middle child, son Nick Reiner, has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in relation to their deaths, The Guardian reports.
In the weeks since their deaths, a spotlight has been shone on the family. Not only on Rob and Michele, but also the children they leave behind. Now, a man named Nanon Williams, who had befriended the couple while incarcerated, has spoken out about his relationship with them and about being in touch with Jake Reiner and his sister, Romy Reiner.
Inmate Reveals Closeness to Jake & Romy Reiner
Williams has served 34 years behind bars, all the while maintaining his innocence. He befriended the Reiners in 2016, when they attended an event for “Lyrics From Lockdown,” in which he appeared. In an interview with People, Williams revealed that the Reiners had become “like family” to him, and they regularly checked in with him via emails and phone calls.
Rob and Michele were helping Williams with his case in the hope of securing his freedom. They were working alongside Georgetown University Making an Exoneree program, and the couple were passionate about this case. After the tragic passing of their parents, Jake and Romy reached out to Williams.
“I got two emails, one from Jake and one from Romy, that were written on January 4th,” Williams said. “They’re their parents’ children. I know that they’re going through probably the toughest moment they’ll ever go through in their lives, but they’re still expressing that, ‘Hey, we’re family. We’re standing by you. We’re going to be here forever, and we love you very much.’”
A Close Bond
Williams also told People that he has a close bond with the siblings, but especially with Romy. “They’re private in their life, but they explained to me about how they lost their parents,” he said. “And in some ways, they feel like they lost their brother as well. So they explained to me exactly how they’re feeling.”
Williams expressed his sadness for the siblings as they navigate this tragic situation: the death of their parents and their brother accused of their murders. But he also praised them for being “strong or vulnerable.” He continued, “And what’s amazing is, despite what they’re going through and how they’re feeling, they’re also showing love. They’re doing exactly the same thing their parents did.”
There has been an outpouring of love and compassion for Jake and Romy, and their social media posts have been flooded with supportive comments. Neither of them has broken their silence on social media, but that has not stopped fans from sharing their thoughts.
On Jake’s last Instagram post on October 8, 2025, loving messages include, “My deepest condolences on the loss of your parents. It all sounds unbelievably horrific. I’m so sorry you are experiencing this tragedy,” and “You and your sister are on my mind constantly. I hope that there are people looking after you both. Words cannot express how sorry I am for what you and your family are experiencing right now.”
Romy’s last post on Instagram was on December 1, 2025. She has also received supportive messages. “I’m very sorry, Romy. Your father was a great man,” a fan shared. “We hope you are wrapped in love. Sending so much love,” another person wrote.
