Popular ‘Law & Order’ Spin-Off Canceled

The original “Law & Order” series remains one of the most revered scripted crime dramas. Because of this, there have been multiple spin-offs, including “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” which stars  Christopher Meloni. Sadly, the show has now been canceled by Peacock.

Per Variety‘s reporting, the most recent season of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” concluded in June 2025. This comes after, as late as February 2026, the series was still expected to return while they were searching for a new showrunner.

While no reason was given for its cancellation, the outlet states that NBCUniversal, which owns Peacock, is excited about the five new drama series it has slated to premiere, suggesting it had less need for the Meloni-led series.

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Was Generally Well Received

“Law & Order: Organized Crime” premiered on NBC in April 2021. However, ahead of its 5th season in 2025, the show was moved to Peacock, a fate that has befallen several shows with potential but that don’t draw the same ratings as other options on the network.

Regarding its reception, the “Law & Order” spin-off has an audience rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. The show also did well on Metacritic, where it has a “generally favorable” six out of 10 rating from critics.

The user score is higher at 8 out of 10, making it also “generally favorable.” According to TV Ratings Guide, the spin-off premiered to strong viewership in 2021, often reaching around five million viewers.

However, over time, the series’ reach began to wane. Before moving to Peacock, the show reportedly drew around 3 to 5 million live viewers per episode.

In addition to Meloni, “Law & Order: Organized Crime” featured Ainsley Seiger, Danielle Monรฉ Truitt, Mariska Hargitay, Rick Gonzalez, Dylan McDermott, and more.

Christopher Meloni Has a New Show Coming

Meloni is one of the most revered actors in the “Law & Order” Universe. This is the case not only for his 75 episodes on “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” but also his long tenure on “Special Victims Unit.” Because of this, the cancellation is sad news for many fans.

However, according to Variety, Meloni was recently cast in the upcoming Hulu series “The Land,” created by Dan Fogelman. The scripted series will center around professional football. The upcoming show is expected to premiere sometime in 2026.

Per IMDb, the actor also has other projects in the works. One is a movie, “Little Brother,” and the other is a TV series, “I Suck at Girls,” which was recently acquired by Netflix.
