Marlon Wayans is bringing back “Scary Movie” energy in the most on-brand way possible — by leaking his own trailer.
The actor and co-writer took to Instagram to share a video of himself inside a movie theater as the teaser for “Scary Movie 6” played on the big screen. “Just Bootlegged my own Movie Trailer! WE’RE BACK!!!! @scarymovie @paramountpics @miramax #scarymovie,” he captioned the post.
According to Deadline, the official teaser is debuting exclusively in theaters ahead of “Scream 7,” with a wider release expected soon. In the video, Wayans joked that while audiences may have shown up for “Scream 7,” it was really opening night for the “Scary Movie 6” preview. He added with a laugh, “This better be funny.”
Fans Celebrate the Return
Wayans followed up with another Instagram video capturing audience reactions to the trailer. The clip showed fans laughing and cheering as the teaser played, signaling strong early excitement for the franchise’s return.
The comments section quickly filled with nostalgia. “I am so excited for this! Scary Movie is back home 🙌,” one fan wrote. Another added, “Millennials are seated ❤️🔥.” A third chimed in, “Can’t wait! Classic!”
The new installment marks a major reunion for the franchise that first launched in 2000. As previously reported, Anna Faris and Regina Hall are officially returning as Cindy and Brenda. Marlon Wayans is co-writing the script alongside his brothers Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, who created the franchise but were not involved in the last three films.
Directed by Michael Tiddes, “Scary Movie 6” features a blend of returning and new cast members. Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans and Heidi Gardner join the ensemble, alongside returning stars including Marlon and Shawn Wayans, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri and Anthony Anderson. The film is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.
“White Chicks 2” and “Don’t Be a Menace 2” on the Table
While promoting the sequel, Wayans also hinted that “Scary Movie 6” could be just the beginning. Speaking on “Rap Attack,” he teased potential follow-ups to two of his other cult classics, “White Chicks” and “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.”
“When y’all see this movie, you’ll be like, ‘That’s it. That’s the one. That’s what we needed,’” Wayans said. “Y’all belly will be full and you’ll be wanting more.”
He added that if the new film performs well at the box office, fans can expect more revivals. “If Scary Movie does well like we hope it does, then we’ll be back real hard, next White Chicks 2 and Don’t Be a Menace 2,” he said. “We’re going to dig in the crates and bring back some hits. We know how.”
