The FBI appears to be exhausting every avenue in its search for Nancy Guthrie. According to a new report, investigators are now digging into pharmaceutical records as the search nears the two-month mark—but they may hit a major roadblock.
FBI Digs Into Pharmaceutical Records in Search for Nancy Guthrie
Scott Eicher, a founding member of the FBI’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team, sat down with Nancy Grace for the Thursday, March 19, episode of her “Crime Stories with Nancy Grace” series.
The two discussed the FBI’s latest tactic as Grace revealed, “The feds are searching for pharmaceutical records similar to meds used by Nancy Guthrie.”
According to Eicher, digging into pharmaceutical records comes with some major roadblocks.
“Well, you got to first jump the hurdle of privacy regarding medical records,” he said. “That’s going to be a tough one to get past. One of the things that you think about is that if they abducted Nancy and they wanted to keep her alive, did they refill her prescription somehow? Okay, maybe they didn’t do that. But can we find other people, newer people, that just started the same type of prescriptions that Nancy was on?”
The theory is that if they identify patients filling prescriptions for drugs similar to those prescribed to Guthrie, they may be able to track down her abductors.
“That’s an avenue to go, but I think it’s going to be hard,” Eicher continued. “It’s not like you can do a tower dump on prescriptions. You’re going to have to find a way to get into the privacy aspect of getting people’s medical histories.”
Nancy Guthrie Suffered From Heart Problems
From the very beginning of the investigation, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, along with Guthrie’s children, has pleaded with the public for help locating the 84-year-old.
Nanos revealed during a press conference that Guthrie “is in need of medication, medication that if she doesn’t have it in 24 hours, it could be fatal.”
On February 3, two days after she was reported missing, police dispatch audio was released, revealing Guthrie’s extensive medical issues.
“Nancy, a white female, 84 years of age, 5’2″, medium build, brown over blue. Missing after 2200 hours as of yesterday,” according to the recording, obtained by People. The outlet reported that Guthrie has high blood pressure and cardiac issues, and uses a pacemaker.
Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31 at a family dinner hosted by her daughter, Annie Guthrie. She was reported missing the following day after missing her regular church service.
