Chrissy Metz has always connected with fans through her deep honesty and vulnerability. This was true, particularly when it came to body image in the public eye.
The beloved former “This Is Us” star candidly explained why she decided to use a GLP-1 medication for weight loss. She offered a perspective on how the experience helped shift her relationship with her health and continues to make a meaningful impact on her life.
The Star Says The Experience Has ‘Been Great’
GettyIn a new interview with People Magazine, Chrissy Metz shared that she has partnered with the company Ro for the medication.
Metz, who currently stars on Broadway in “& Juliet,” opened up about her lifelong struggle with her weight. She felt it was important to be completely transparent with fans.
The actress said, “I just wanted to take care of myself.” She added, “I’m in perimenopause, and there were obesity issues within my family and with my father. I felt like I’ve tried so many modalities. Whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me.”
She continued that her experience taking the medication has “been great.” The actress added, “I’ve enjoyed the benefits that I didn’t think that would come. I was very skeptical. I was like, ‘I’m not taking this medication, I don’t wanna do this. It’s not gonna work for me.’ You know, all the things. But when I realized food noise was really a thing, that consumed a lot of my headspace, I was like, ‘Oh.’”
The star concluded, “It’s so nice not to be obsessing about what I’m going to have every minute, even as I’m still consuming the meal. I just vilified food for so long. I was taught that it was bad.”
“And it’s been helping me be more mobile and have less joint pain and inflammation. Run around onstage and just do things that would have been much more difficult several pounds and inches ago.”
Chrissy Metz Says It’s ‘My Life’
Today, Chrissy Metz is focused on what’s best for her. She doesn’t listen to the outside noise that has always surrounded her weight.
She told People, “It doesn’t matter, because like I always say, they’re not in my life. They’re not in my doctor’s notes. They’re not in the hereditary issues my family has.”
Metz added, “My life is my life, and I have to do what’s best for me, and that includes not listening to the comments and just talking to people who are positive and kind. I can’t engage with something that doesn’t make me feel good.”
“Listen, when it comes to me, everybody is judgy,” she concluded. “It doesn’t matter what I do. Before, people were like ‘Why isn’t she on a GLP-1?’ and now they’re going to know I’m on it and be like, ‘Why is she on a GLP-1?’”
Chrissy Metz stars as Angélique in “& Juliet.” She is scheduled for a limited 13-week engagement that concludes on September 13, 2026.
