Adrian Lyne’s “Indecent Proposal” is one of the most impactful movies of the 1990s. Now, don’t get us wrong, it’s not a good film — the fact that it was nominated for seven Golden Raspberry Awards and won three (including Worst Picture) is testament to that — but its steamy concept, great cast, and ultimately romantic spirit mean it’s become a 90s cult classic to some and a guilty pleasure to others.
The erotic romantic drama movie — based on Jack Engelhard’s 1988 novel of the same name — follows a young married couple who find their relationship is disrupted by a billionaire stranger’s offer of a million dollars for the wife to spend one night with him.
It stars Robert Redford, Demi Moore, and Woody Harrelson, with a core supporting cast that includes Oliver Platt and Seymour Cassel.
Although its Rotten Tomatoes approval rating stands at a measly 34%, it grossed over $266 million worldwide, having cost just $38 million to make, meaning it was a huge financial success (per Box Office Mojo).
