Meg Cabot wrote 12 novels in the series, so there is plenty of source material. Andrews, 90, finally reacted to the announcement of a new movie and whether she plans to return to the character.

GettyThe Oscar winner has understandably slowed down on work. She continues to voice Lady Whistledown on “Bridgerton.” Most of her roles are voice acting these days, and Clarisse would require more than that.
“I’m not going to be in it,” the ‘Sound of Music’ star told Today. “I think the story is slightly different, and I’m not quite sure how they’re dealing with that. But it’s too late for me to do it. I think the story has to continue in Princess Mia. It’s her story. It’s not really mine.”
Walt Disney is releasing a documentary focused on the musical icon in 2027. Producer and director R.J. Cutler is behind the project. He directed “Martha,” “Elton John: Never Too Late,” and “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry.”
She is also releasing a book with her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, called “Shy” on Aug. 11. The book follows a puppy’s journey to becoming confident enough to perform at Carnegie Hall.
Anne Hathaway Says ‘Princess Diaries 3’ Is Moving in the Right Direction
Hathaway acknowledged the anniversary of the first “Princess Diaries” movie on Instagram Aug. 11. She posted a video montage of behind-the-scenes moments while filming.
The caption read, “25 years later and it’s still one of the most magical things that has ever happened to me! Thank you all for loving The Princess Diaries as much as I do- I am forever grateful for my PD family!!” She also mentioned the movie’s director with, “Love you Garry [Marshall], miss you every day xx.”
Marshall directed both movies, as well as many rom-com classics. He directed “Pretty Woman,” “Never Been Kissed,” “Runaway Bride,” and the tearjerker “Beaches.”
Director Adele Lim of the comedy “Joy Ride” is set to direct the third movie. Flora Greeson of “The High Note” and Netflix’s reboot of “13 Going on 30” is the screenwriter. Hathaway told Andy Cohen that her pregnancy with her third baby pushed back the movie. But there is good news about the script.
“I can say I think we had a story breakthrough,” she revealed. “I think we are moving in the right direction. The script that we were working on — we kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one.”
Andrews’ latest interview leaves the question of how the script will handle her character. It’s unknown when the third installment will be released.
