‘General Hospital’ Fans and Co-Stars Show Their Support as Soap Star Opens Up About His First Child’s Scary Birth

Congratulations are in order for “General Hospital” star Sawandi Wilson, who portrays Dr. Isaiah Gannon in Port Charles. The soap star and his wife, Anna, recently welcomed their first child, a baby girl.

However, the couple’s introduction to parenthood came with some frightening moments. After a challenging delivery and their newborn daughter’s time in the NICU, Wilson opened up about the experience and the gratitude it gave him. His “General Hospital” co-stars and fans quickly responded with an outpouring of love, prayers and support for the new family. Read on to see what Wilson shared and how his Port Charles family responded.

Sawandi Wilson Celebrates the ‘Biggest Role’ of His Life

Sawandi Wilson marked the beginning of his journey into fatherhood on social media with a video documenting “Dad Life Day: 0.”

“The journey begins,” Wilson wrote. “The biggest role of my life starts now. No script. No rehearsals. Just showing up, learning, loving, and doing my best every day.”

Unfortunately, Wilson and his wife’s first days as parents proved considerably more frightening than they likely anticipated.

Anna endured a challenging delivery, while the couple’s newborn daughter required care in the neonatal intensive care unit. Wilson later expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals he credited with saving both his wife and daughter’s lives.

Just one day after sharing his first “Dad Life” video, Wilson returned to social media with another update reflecting on the experience.

“The NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) will humble you fast,” Wilson shared. “Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it.”

What began as a celebration of the “biggest role” of Wilson’s life quickly gave the new father a different perspective on parenthood. Watching his wife endure a difficult delivery and his daughter require specialized care left Wilson with a renewed appreciation for his family and the medical professionals who helped them through the frightening experience.

‘General Hospital’ Co-Stars Show Their Support

As Wilson opened up about his family’s difficult first days, several of his “General Hospital” co-stars reached out with messages of congratulations, prayers and support.

Cameron Mathison, who portrays Drew Cain on “GH,” kept his message simple, writing, “Brother,” alongside a series of prayer and heart emojis.

Finola Hughes, who portrays Anna Devane, also celebrated the family’s newest arrival.

“Congratulations, Sawandi, and to your wife and new baby girl,” Hughes wrote.

Van Hansis, who portrays Dr. Lucas Jones in Port Charles, similarly sent his love to Wilson and his wife.

“Huge congrats to you and Anna. Much love to you both,” Hansis wrote.

One particularly heartfelt message came from Kayden Tokarski, the new Scout Cain on “General Hospital.”

“Congratulations on this next, beautiful chapter in your lives,” Tokarski wrote. “I am sending all my prayers and love your way.”

Tokarski also wished Wilson’s daughter continued strength and good health, adding that the difficult experience was already a testament to the parents Wilson and his wife are and will continue to become.

The messages from his co-stars made it clear that Wilson and his family have plenty of support from Port Charles as they navigate their unexpected introduction to parenthood.

Fans Share Their Own NICU Stories and Send Their Love

Wilson’s story also resonated with fans, including viewers who had firsthand experience with the NICU themselves.

One fan revealed that they had been a NICU baby 67 years earlier after being born with a hole in their heart.

“I’m 67 & was a NICU baby born with a hole in my heart. It closed without surgery,” the viewer shared.

The fan reflected on how much neonatal care has advanced since their own birth before sending continued healing wishes, prayers, and blessings to Wilson’s daughter.

Other viewers similarly focused on the continued recovery of the new mom and baby.

“Sending love and best wishes to you, your wife, and beautiful new baby girl! May she continue to get stronger every day,” one fan wrote.

Another viewer was particularly moved by Wilson’s willingness to share his family’s experience.

“Brother, your story is powerful!!! Glad to hear baby is doing well,” the fan wrote, before encouraging Wilson to make sure his wife was also being cared for as she recovered.

Others filled the comments with congratulations, prayers and positive thoughts for the entire family.

“Congratulations on the birth of your daughter,” another fan wrote, sending “positive healing vibrations” to Wilson’s wife and blessings to the couple as they begin their journey into parenthood.

Wilson may have started his “Dad Life” journey describing fatherhood as the “biggest role” of his life, but his first days in that role have already brought challenges he could never have rehearsed for. After a frightening beginning, Wilson has expressed overwhelming gratitude for the people who helped his wife and daughter through it, while his “General Hospital” co-stars and fans are making it equally clear that the new family has plenty of people rooting for them.
