On Tuesday’s episode of “The Young and the Restless,” emotions ran high across Genoa City as old wounds resurfaced and shocking decisions left relationships hanging in the balance. While Adam (Mark Grossman) and Sally (Courtney Hope) shared a heartfelt conversation about the daughter they lost, Matt (Roger Howarth) struggled to come to terms with the horrifying memories of his past.
Elsewhere, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) found himself questioning whether redemption is possible, Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) and Noah Newman (Lucas Adams) debated Matt’s future, and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) received a stunning ultimatum from Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) just hours after helping save his life.

Adam And Sally Reflect On Ava
The episode began with Adam finding Sally at Chancellor Park Cafe as she worked on plans for her upcoming wedding to Billy. Although Adam offered his congratulations, it was clear the news wasn’t easy for him to hear. He admitted that Billy would never be good enough for Sally, but ultimately wished her happiness and said she deserved nothing less.
Their conversation soon shifted to Sally’s pregnancy and the complicated emotions surrounding it. Adam acknowledged that while he was happy for Sally, part of him would always be sad that their daughter, Ava, wasn’t there to experience it with them.
Sally admitted she still dreams about Ava and shared details of a recent dream that has stayed with her. In the dream, Ava was playing on the beach, building sandcastles and splashing in the waves while Sally watched from nearby. Sally revealed that Adam was there too, quietly watching over their daughter and keeping her safe.
The emotional exchange left both of them fighting back tears. Adam reassured Sally that she would be an incredible mother, while Sally reminded him that he had always been a wonderful father to Connor and, in her dreams, to Ava as well.
Matt’s Memories Return In Devastating Fashion
At Noah’s recreated Shadow Room, Matt’s memories finally came flooding back.
One horrifying flashback after another forced Matt to relive the crimes he committed against Sharon, Noah, Sienna, and others. As the memories returned, Matt broke down completely. Rather than becoming the dangerous man everyone feared would reemerge, he was consumed by guilt and self-loathing.
Matt repeatedly apologized to those he had hurt and admitted that remembering what he had done was worse than he could have imagined. He even warned Sienna to stay away from him, fearing he was still capable of causing harm.
When Sienna asked if he wanted to hurt anyone in that moment, Matt insisted he didn’t. Instead, he begged for the opportunity to make things right before his life ended. The emotional collapse left everyone stunned, especially Sharon, who expected the darkness to return alongside his memories.
Victor And Nick Debate Matt’s Fate
After removing Matt from the Shadow Room, Nick brought him back to the Newman ranch and left him in the gym while he spoke with Victor.
Nick explained that Matt’s memories had returned and that the experience appeared to have completely shattered him. While Nick admitted he had wanted Matt out of their lives forever, he couldn’t ignore what he had witnessed.
Victor acknowledged that Matt had saved Nick’s life, but he wasn’t ready to forget everything else the man had done. Instead, he decided to keep Matt under his watch and observe whether his apparent remorse was genuine.
Meanwhile, Sharon, Noah, and Sienna continued discussing what they had witnessed. Sharon remained convinced Matt should ultimately face prison for his crimes, while Sienna questioned whether the broken man they saw today could survive that punishment.
Matt Begs Victor For Redemption
Later, Victor confronted Matt alone in the Newman gym.
Still haunted by his memories, Matt admitted that everything people had said about him was true. He called himself a vicious human being and questioned whether someone capable of committing such terrible acts could ever truly have a soul.
Victor pointed out that saving Nick’s life didn’t erase years of pain and suffering. Matt agreed completely.
When Victor asked whether he deserved punishment, Matt admitted he probably did. However, he also revealed that part of him knew his actions were wrong even while he was committing them. Unable to explain why he ignored that voice, Matt pleaded for the opportunity to prove he could change.
Nick Stuns Phyllis With A Cruel Ultimatum
After an emotional conversation with Victor earlier in the day, Phyllis was relieved when she finally found Nick at the Genoa City Athletic Club.
The reunion started warmly as Phyllis hugged Nick and expressed how terrified she had been after nearly losing him. Nick thanked her for helping save his life and for turning Matt over to him.
However, the conversation quickly took a shocking turn.
When Phyllis asked what would happen to Matt and whether she would face legal consequences, Nick informed her that she had been harboring a fugitive. While Phyllis argued that she didn’t know the full truth about Matt when she first met him, Nick wasn’t interested in excuses.
The situation escalated even further when Nick revealed that he intended to take back the company she currently controlled. Phyllis reminded him that he had promised to drop the charges if she helped deliver Matt.
Nick then stunned her by threatening to tell authorities that she knowingly harbored Matt Clark if she refused to give the company back.
A devastated Phyllis could barely believe what she was hearing.
After everything she had done to save his life, she demanded to know why he was suddenly treating her like an enemy. As the episode came to a close, Phyllis tearfully asked the question many viewers were likely wondering themselves: “Who are you?”
