Former ‘DWTS’ Contestant Pitches Herself as Next ‘Bachelorette’

Fan favorites from “The Bachelorette” have competed on “Dancing with the Stars” before. However, the dancing competition has never had a former contestant lead the dating series.

Olympian Ilona Maher would love to be the next Bachelorette. She pitched her hilarious vision for her season. The idea came up after Taylor Frankie Paul’s season was cancelled.

Maher noticed the support she received from her fans, who claimed she would be the perfect leading lady. She called the comments “very sweet” and shared a few of her conditions for the show.

Former Olympian Wants Joey Graziadei’s Help

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Maher shared her thoughts about possibly becoming the next Bachelorette. She admitted that she would want fellow DWTS contestant and former Bachelor Joey Graziadei to serve as the executive producer.

“The only way I would do it, I was talking to Joey Graziadei. He’d have to executive produce,” Maher said at Monday’s red carpet event for the “Hannah Montana” 20th Anniversary Special.

Graziadei and Maher competed on Season 33 of DWTS. The finalists became good friends during the show. Maher was even extremely supportive of Graziadei’s win.

Unlike previous seasons of “The Bachelorette” that are tear-filled and dramatic, Maher shared that her season would have comedic relief. “It would be like an episode of The Office. A guy would say something, and then I’d look at the camera. And then it’d just be funny,” she added.

Future of ‘The Bachelorette’ Currently On Hold

“The Bachelorette” is on hiatus at this time. ABC canceled Taylor Frankie Paul’s season after it was expected to premiere on Sunday, March 22.

A video showing an altercation between Paul and her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, surfaced, leading Disney to not air her season. Producers are currently feeling a flurry of emotions after making this swift decision.

They hoped Paul’s lead would give a boost to both “The Bachelorette” franchise and Hulu’s hit series, “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” They are saddened by ABC’s sudden move to cancel the series.

Paul’s season was said to be different from past seasons in that she would call the shots among the various suitors vying for her attention. “The Bachelorette” showrunner Scott Teti had nothing but great things to say about Paul’s season.

Despite his “concern” about her connection to her ex-boyfriend, she believed that she would’ve been a great lead. Paul was given more freedom to make her own decisions, some of which left them in shock.
