The new Bachelorette is Taylor Frankie Paul, a 31-year-old reality star who rose to fame through the Hulu series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Her casting marks a historic shift for the franchise, as she is the first lead who did not previously appear within the Bachelor universe.

However, the unconventional casting choice is not the only major change for the upcoming season. The long-standing traditions of the franchise are also seeing an unexpected shift.

For this season, ABC has decided to take a new direction in order to reinvent the long-running franchise. In addition to choosing a lead from outside the traditional contestant pool, the network has also changed the show’s release schedule.

Historically, The Bachelorette has been considered a summer staple, usually airing during weeknight prime time earlier in the year. This season, however, will premiere on March 22, breaking with that long-standing format.

Why This Season Marks a Historic Change

New episodes will now air on Sunday nights during the spring, placing the series directly within the competitive Sunday prime-time lineup. According to Art Threat, producers hinted that the scheduling shift could help revitalize the Bachelor Nation franchise and attract viewers beyond the show’s traditional audience.

As a result, Season 22 may compete for ratings alongside major sporting events and high-profile television programs.

This year’s cast features 22 contestants ranging in age from 28 to 43, bringing a diverse range of backgrounds and professions to the show. Casting adjustments began after Paul’s participation was announced in September 2025.

Producers reportedly refined the lineup to match Taylor Frankie Paul’s personality and dating preferences, aiming to create strong chemistry and dramatic moments throughout the season. The change represents a significant evolution for the broader The Bachelor franchise. For more than two decades, every Bachelorette had previously appeared within the same reality ecosystem.

This new approach could open the door to different personalities and storylines within the series. The new season of The Bachelorette premieres March 22 on ABC at 8 p.m. EDT, and will also be available to stream on Hulu.
