The nicknames that two of the most prominent members of the British royal family have for each other have been revealed.
King Charles III and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have been father-in-law and daughter-in-law for 15 years, following the latter’s marriage to the former’s son, William, Prince of Wales, in 2011.
Charles, 77, and Kate, 44, enjoy a wonderful relationship with each other. Whenever they’re in public together, they seem happy and comfortable in each other’s company, and they always exchange kisses on each other’s cheeks as a greeting.
It should come as no surprise, therefore, that the nicknames they have for each other are adorable.
Princess Kate Calls King Charles ‘Grandpa’
GettyPer the Daily Mail and as confirmed by Hello, British royal expert Richard Jobson says that, according to a courtier, Princess Kate lovingly calls King Charles “Grandpa.”
While that isn’t the most surprising nickname — given that Charles is the grandfather of her three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8 — it is undeniably adorable that Kate calls him that herself.
Charles is, of course, also grandfather to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 4. However, he doesn’t get to see them quite as much as William and Kate’s children, given they reside in the United States.
King Charles Has Multiple Nicknames for Princess Kate
GettyThe same sources (Daily Mail and Hello) say that King Charles has multiple cute nicknames for Princess Kate.
Apparently, they include “beloved daughter-in-law” and “darling daughter-in-law” — both of which are absolutely lovely.
Hello state that, while Charles and Kate have always enjoyed a close relationship, their bond increased exponentially when they both endured the harrowing torment of cancer diagnoses in recent years. Apparently, they turned to each other for comfort during their respective treatments, with their shared experiences bringing them closer than ever before.
Charles visited Kate in her hospital bed when they were both staying at the London Clinic. Moreover, they shared a private lunch in Windsor the day before Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis to the world.
Thankfully, both Charles and Kate appear to be over the worst of their health issues. Per the BBC, the king shared a positive update about his treatment in December 2025, saying his treatment would be reduced as it was working well.
Additionally, also per the BBC, Kate revealed she was clear of cancer and in remission back in January 2025.
Kate is back to carrying out full-time royal duties and Prince William recently revealed on British radio show Heart Breakfast that she’d enjoyed a successful trip to Italy (per the Express).
Charles, meanwhile, has been extremely busy in recent days, with the British royal family’s official Instagram account showing him having visited the likes of the Chelsea Flower Show, Hillsborough Castle, and County Down, Northern Ireland.
Hopefully, King Charles and Princess Kate remain healthy so they can continue their lovely relationship and keep coming up with adorable new nicknames for each other.
