Princess Diana’s Sister Hospitalized

Lady Sarah McCorquodale, the eldest sister of the late Princess Diana, was seriously injured in the accident last month. Her brother, Charles Spencer, revealed the news during his appearance on the Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth podcast on Friday, October 24. During his conversation, he noted that she had spent several weeks in the hospital but is now recovering.

“She’s still riding, and she’s had a really bad fall last month and has been in hospital for a long time,” Spencer said. The 9th Earl Spencer added that doctors described his sister as “quite a character,” joking that it was likely code for, “Could you take her home?”

Prince William and Prince Harry’s aunt, 70, is on the mend, according to People.

A Spirited Personality & A Lifetime of Family Memories

During the podcast, Spencer reflected on their childhood at the family’s Althorp estate, describing his sister as “always in trouble.” He shared that when Sarah once argued with their father, she “rode her horse into the hall” of their home and refused to move. “It was a brilliant gesture because what are you going to do with that?” he recalled.

Lady Sarah, known for her humor and strong will, has long been a steady presence in the Spencer family, staying close to her nephews, William and Harry, over the years.

Lady Sarah has remained an essential figure in the lives of both Prince William and Prince Harry. In September 2024, she appeared alongside William at RAF Cranwell to support graduates at the same flight training school where he once trained.

She also played a key role in commissioning the statue of her late sister, unveiled in July 2021 at Kensington Palace, where William and Harry reunited to honor Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday.

In 2019, Lady Sarah attended the christening of Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Prince Archie, alongside her sister Lady Jane Fellowes.

Princess Diana’s siblings have remained united in keeping her legacy alive. Reflecting on his sister’s funeral during the podcast, Spencer recalled being asked to deliver her eulogy: one of the most memorable in modern royal history.

“I had a big, thick address book, and I thought, ‘I want to find someone who’s going to make the speech for her,’” he said. “I got to Z and hadn’t found anyone. I called my mother and said, ‘I can’t think who’s going to give the eulogy. And I’ve got an awful feeling it’s going to have to be me.’ She said, ‘Well, it is going to be you.’”

Now that Lady Sarah is recovering, the Spencer family continues to show the same resilience that has defined them for generations.
