A-List Actor Is Ready to Retire After ‘Very Painful’ Tragedy On Set

Alec Baldwin is ready for his decades-long career to come to an end after the tragedy on the set of his film “Rust.”

Baldwin opened up about the future of his career during his Monday, April 13, appearance on the “The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter” podcast.

Alec Baldwin Is Ready to Retire

The “30 Rock” star shared that he hopes to wrap up his career and be able to spend more time at home with his family in the coming years.

“For me, because of the situation in New Mexico, that was very painful,” Baldwin told host Scott Feinberg of the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film.

He continued, “I wound up staying home a lot. I was home with my kids for three and a half years. I hardly worked at all. And that’s just changing now. I’m going to go off and do a bunch of things, but I was home, and I got used to it, and I don’t want to leave my house anymore. I don’t.”

Baldwin is the father of eight children, including 30-year-old Ireland Baldwin, whom he shares with ex Kim Basinger. The actor and wife Hilaria Baldwin have seven children: Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo, María Lucía, and Ilaria. The large family starred in TLC’s “The Baldwins” in 2025.

“I don’t want to work anymore. I don’t. I really don’t. I want to retire and stay home with my kids,” he added.

Halyna Hutchins’ Tragic Death

Hutchins’ was tragically killed on the set of their film in October 2021 after Baldwin discharged a gun, fatally wounding the cinematographer.

He was charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023, but those charges were later dropped. The following year, he was again charged with involuntary manslaughter. Those charges were dismissed with prejudice in July 2024.

“It impacted me in every way — financially, career-wise, my wife, my kids, my health,” Baldwin said during his podcast appearance of the trial. “I was so sick. I mean, we had to go back and finish the movie Rust in Montana as a component of the settlement with her husband. We had to finish.”

He added, “I had a nerve condition that you get when you take blood pressure medication, orthostatic hypotension, where you black out. I blacked out three times during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend of that year, and fell on top of my wife once. It was crazy. It was horrible.”
