Kennedy Family Member Jumps to Defend Daryl Hannah

Douglas Kennedy, the cousin of John F. Kennedy Jr., is speaking out in defense of Daryl Hannah, Kennedy Jr’s on-off girlfriend whose controversial portrayal on the popular FX show, ‘Love Story,’ has sparked a lot of talk.

Specifically, when speaking with Page Six, Douglas admitted that he hasn’t seen the show, but its take on Hannah is “unfortunate.”

“Daryl Hannah was great,” he told the outlet. “Whenever I saw her, she was very sweet and had [John’s] best interests at heart. I think that’s a misrepresentation.”

Hannah and JFK Jr., who is played by Paul Anthony Kelly, reportedly dated for more than five years before he ultimately married Carolyn Bessette in 1996. Dree Hemingway plays Hannah in the show.

The controversy over the portrayal stems from a New York Times opinion piece, titled “How Can ‘Love Story’ Get Away With This?” in which Hannah calls out how she’s depicted, saying it’s “not even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct or my relationship with John.” She added that she has “received many hostile and even threatening messages from viewers who seem to believe the portrayal is factual.”

Actress Rosanna Arquette Also Speaks Out In Defense Of Daryl Hannah

Actress Rosanna Arquette has also come to Hannah’s defense, sharing a passionate post on social media.

“I love Daryl Hannah. She’s a great woman, a great actor, writer, director and activist for the environment for years,” Arquette wrote in an Instagram post. “She is also an animal whisperer. Her work in the world has been epic. The portrayal of her on the streaming thing is (expletive).”

She also spoke about Hannah’s relationship with JFK Jr.

“Her love with John F Kennedy Jr was real and some of the happiest times John F Kennedy Jr. had – Just ask his family,” she added. “But no one did.”

The popular show, “Love Story,” also portrayed Carolyn Bessette’s relationship with Caroline Kennedy as one with a lot of tension. However, according to Douglas, things were made to look a lot more extreme than how it actually was.

“Everybody around Carolyn loved Carolyn,” Douglas said.

“It’s difficult to capture the intricacies of people’s lives in movies or television,” he continues. “If you know people, these types of things often fail in capturing the essence of who people were.”

“John was the leader of my generation,” he adds. “He was irreplaceable.”
